wingman ai weirdness

Post by Maledictus010 »

Hi people,

Had something strange happen to my wingman on more than one occasion. After a mission when ordering my wingman to land (after having cleared the last navpoint) he decides that floating backwards through space away from the carrier is much more fun. I can't get him to join formation again, let alone land. After having landed myself my wingman's status in the after-battle briefing is none, it just says launched, no return. Would that mean that i've lost a fighter for the duration of the campaign? This seems to happen during escort missions the most, in other missions i've been able to let my wingman land as usual.
Also, when ordering my wingman into a formation, if i disable FLCS and spin around somewhat to check my six, my wingman seems to go nuts. Looks like he tries to adapt formation to my ship's orientation, not my heading. No big deal, but it looks kinda silly.
Those would be the only 'complaints' i have now, in all the game is awesome. I just finished an uneventful escort mission, quite realistic to see missions come along that don't involve enemy contact (this time). This dynamic campaign stuff is great. I just wish it would be possible to get a feel of how the campaign is going. Now i need to look at the enemy OOB to see what got killed (and i need to remember what they had in the first place to see what the kills are). A sort of progress log would be great, a bit like the after battle report but for the whole campaign until now. Or am i missing something ?

Thanks for any input on this!

Hi. I'm still new to game myself too but i have played enough to maybe answer some of those.
After a mission when ordering my wingman to land (after having cleared the last navpoint) he decides that floating backwards through space away from the carrier is much more fun. I can't get him to join formation again, let alone land.

The wingmen sometimes seem to wander off somewhere, but i haven't had the problem that they do not respond to return to base order, they have always come to their senses if i order them to return to base. But other people have reported that they do not respond.

Maybe they are attacking something, in strike missions they sometimes seem to know where the vessel in question is even though the waypoints are going to different direction and the vessel does not show up in sensors, map, or anywhere [:)] I guess they can see the vessel, but they even identify that vessel to be the right one [8D] I don't have a problem with that [;)]

But they do that in other missions too, seeming to fly into nothing, and often times they do not respond to return to formation order, but i have managed them to snap out of it by issuing many different orders, like continue on with mission, then again formation, or attack or anything.
After having landed myself my wingman's status in the after-battle briefing is none, it just says launched, no return. Would that mean that i've lost a fighter for the duration of the campaign? This seems to happen during escort missions the most, in other missions i've been able to let my wingman land as usual.

I'd say no, you only lose them if they are destroyed... (and by the way, they sometimes crash while docking too [:'(])

...but you can confirm that by looking in the forces screen, but you have to remember how many you had before the mission. I keep track of the battle with forces screen and intel screen. At least i have news about battle in the intel screen, like that and that squadron assaulted that and that squadron and that got killed with this many losses. They of course do not show up if nothing happens, but they do show up even if there are no casualties on either side, then it says they failed assault on this ship. These go for v. 4.5.0.

By the way, i'm not sure if running out of fuel can cause wingmen to do that, but if you run out, or your drive is damaged, use your translation thrusters or esc and 'end and accept' if there are no enemies.
