I have it. Fun, but like you said repetitive and open ended so you don't really have an end game per se. I played it for a week and haven't touched it since

(Before this thread gets kicked to "General Discussion"):

I like this game a lot, and can't really understand why so many people dump on it for being "repetitive". The original game for the Commodore 64 (about 14,000 years ago) was exactly as "repetitive", and the remake is even better.

I loved it, but I also got a bit burned out and moved on to other things. But hey, that's true of almost every game I play, and this one obsessed me far more than most. Very good game.

Its VERY fun but its very repetitive, but it is a good game.

I tryed to conqure all the ports to one side, that takes time and really really is hard.

All in all tho its a good game, solid and just like the original, at least from my point of view.

Also if you use some smarts you can really mess up the ai in the tactical battles

One thing I find is avoid the big ship syndrome, they are just big ass slow targets, get a medium/smaller ship and soup it up so its fast and just run circles aroudn the bigger ships taking out their sales then killing off their crew

just dont get hit lol

That is the problem, it is basically the same exact game as it was back in Commodore 64 era with no real game play enhancements. Dunno about anyone else but I was expected the same open ended nature of the game, same feel and all but more features, options etc. It was really disappointing to me, I was expecting I guess Pirates 2 not simply a remake of Pirates with a dancing sequence and better graphics.

Atleast it doesnt look like Firaxs is making the same mistake with Civ 4 :)

Loved the original Pirate's GOLD; a true classic. Would've bet my house I would have loved the new game but I hated it.

Loved that game and played it for years from C64, Amiga to PC. I still have it on my stoneage laptop - it's so slow only old Dos-Games run properly, like Pirates, Empire and PacWar. Good enough for long boring train rides.
I also have Port Royal, but did not play it nearly as long as Pirates. Somebody has played Port Royal II? Is it worth to buy?

Yeah, great game, but EXACTLY the same as the " OLD" Pc version, and it is indeed to simple to shoot the hell out of the big ships, they simply arrent fast enough in turning.........

I enjoyed this game ... in fact it is still on my HD. Somehow I missed on getting the original, so the "sameness" is new to me. Yes, I can see the repetive argument, but agree with another poster, all games are guilty of that.

A fun game and can probably be picked up for a song (and a dance[:D]) presently.

Be sure to watch for the version targeted at the gay audience, "Sid Meier's Butt Pirates."
