We have some now. The fighters were somewhere else for the moment providing LRCAP when Mogami attacked. That area's been fairly quiet, with nothing much for him to hit there--well, he could bomb the troops I suppose, but that attrits medium bombers fast, not a good deal for the Japanese.

Anyway, the lack of CAP that turn was an oversight.

Manila airbase attacked

Enemy bombers flew over Manila in strength, but with the Allies offering stiff opposition in the sky Japanese losses were not light. Little damage was done to the city's airfield.[/font]

[font="Times New Roman"]Later in the day this same ship, Empire Moonrise, was caught by enemy bombers with at least one bomb hit reported. She was said to have sunk shortly afterword.[/font]

[font="Times New Roman"]Scores of enemy fighters and bombers roared through the skies over Manila. Allied fighters intercepted, and in the end not a few airplanes were lost by both sides. Damage to the Manila air facility was said to be light.[/font]

Japanese planes appeared over Singapore again yesterday. The enemy was after shipping in the harbor, but the attack was pushed back.[/font]

Japs invade the Philippines

[font="Times New Roman"]Enemy forces have invaded the port of Aparri on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. The were no reports of casualties and the strength of the Japanese invasion is unknown.

"We believe they'll move down fast," said a United States Army officer in Manila. "The northern part of the island has, for the most part, been evacuated of military personnel. Our plan is to hold out around the capital until relieved."[/font]

Your 16th Army is reducing southern Borneo? The Japanese haven't stepped foot on Borneo anywhere yet.

Boy, they don't call that the Mogami Propaganda Network for nothing, do they. [:D]

But the Japanese still must be using an old Chinese compass. I seem to recall that early Chinese compasses had the arrow head on the "wrong end" of the pointer ! Either that or all of ours do !!!

( i.e. Jesselton being "Southern Borneo" )

Allied freighter attacked

The Allied freighter Elcano was torpedoed twice, and then shelled afterward, by a Japanese submarine in the Karimata Strait about 50 miles west of the port of Singkawang on Borneo. The extent of the damage and casualties suffered are unknown.[/font]

Allied warships surprise Japs
