Japanese Army TO & E

Post by Terminus »

It is a well-known fact that German Army divisions shrank in size (TO & E-wise) as the war progressed. Does anyone know if the Japanese Army did the same?

I'm not sure whether this is a complete answer but I have noticed the following:

1. Unit TOE's change over time, as new equipment becomes available. This starts right away at the beginning of the game when many units start swapping 4.7 for 5.5 CD guns and 47 mm AT guns for 37 mm. Generally the units receive a few less of the larger calibre upgrades.

2. Many Japanese assualt units begin the game with way more than their TOE (ie as much as 180% of the assigned complement). I don't think they receive replacements or reinforcements to rebuild to these higher levels.

3. The initial Japanaese divisions are made up predominantly of units with 447 infantry squads, with independent brigades being smaller (303 infantry). While some of these larger size divisions arrive as replacements, the majority of replacement divisions arrive at brigade size 303 infantry units (and this is listed as their complete buildout according to their TOE).
