save game quesiton

What do the numbers after Ja:, So:, We:, Ch: and Ge: mean when loading a PBEM game?

Sorry, I'm sure it is in the forums, but I could not find it.

The number represents the human player number; I think that is the info your looking for? If you were playing Germany [;)] you would be player 1; Japan as a different human player is player 2; Russian and China human player are both 3; WA player 4. You click directly on the numbers to change them.

Sorry, not when staring a PBEM game, but when loading one. I am talking about the information that is after Console. Thanks.

Those numbers refer to the number of times the previous player reloaded the game. It is a way to check if your opponent might be cheating. If for example, the German player launches an attack that fails, leaves the game without saving, reloads the game, and repeats the attack with more troops to assure a victory - the number after the Ge will be one. If they do this 2 or 3 times, then the number will be 2 or 3. When you load the saved game that the axis player has sent you you will see Ge 1,2,etc after the console 0.

Of course, honest problems such as the computer crashing or the game freezing that cause a reboot will force you to reload the game and increase this "counter" number. It is generally considered courteous in PBEM games to inform your opponent if you are sending them a turn with an increased count # and offer an explanation for what happened. If you see someone send you a game with Ge 4 or 5, you ca be pretty sure something funny is going on.

On a side note, myself and some other people I play with have noted that sometimes for a reason we cannot explain the counter increases by one. I have noted this in games where the game has been saved during the middle of a countries turn. Although this is not supposed to happen because when you save the game the counter is reduced by one; when you reload it will increase by one - for a net change of zero.

Wont people that play funny just make a copy of the save file to experiment with?

I never played PBEM - but it seems pretty easy to get around by simply making a new copy before loading it - but maybe I am missing some safeguard against that.
