New Scenario 13 - Coral Sea to 1946 Campaign using CHS Database

Post by Strela_Oz »

Greetings all,

The first version of my revised CHS Scenario 13 (Scenario slot 050) is ready for testing.

Please reply here and I will email the zipped (500K) file to you. You will need to have installed all the artwork for CHS from Spookys site as well as Andrews expanded map. If you do not install these mods, you will have crashes to desktop.

I am looking for feedback on bugs and OOB changes/recommendations and location sizes etc.

Whats different to the stock scenario 13?

Uses Andrews map
Uses the CHS database
Starting forces are as per CHS, for example the stock scenario uses a mix of groups and squadrons. Only squadrons are represented in this version.
New locations are present.

Regards,

Strela

You can send a copy to me, please.

By the way - does the scenario use my "standard" map or my "extended" (with Aden/Panama) map?

Also - would you like me to host the scenario on my WitP website? I am in the process of making up a scenario page for all scenarios, inclusing CHS, that use my maps.

Hi Andrew,

It uses the extended map. Think of it as CHS - 6 months later....

As this is a first version, I thought it maybe should be tested with a smaller group, tho if you think it makes sense please post it!

I have sent you a private email with my details - can you reply and I will mail back. Or is it safe for me to put my email address up here?

Please include me with your scenario. I was already pondering this possibility. Thanks in advance, Eric

My first impression is that you have not adjusted base supplies or fuel from the initial December start to reflect such resources that would have been scuttled instead of captured. Also damage needs to be applied to the captured bases from that December point as well.

Hi,

All bases / supplies etc are as the start in Scenario 13. The only changes are the new base that were bought in by Andrews map. I used Andrews starting values based on his scenario 113.

More importantly, I have found an error in the allied ships (the Dutch and Philippines fleets were still present) that were showing as reinforcements to an 'unknown' base. I have now corrected this.

So version 1.01 is about to be remailed out to all that asked as well as submitted to Spookys site.

Thanks,

Strela.

I have downloaded the scen from Spooky's.

There is quite a lot that needs to be done. Most of this is what I would call corrections to the generic scenario 13 but there is also some CHS-specific stuff. This appears to have been prepared from a slightly earlier CHS version.

I will have a good look and post detailed comments later, as well as editing my own version at the same time.

P.S. This will be the scenario I want to play most since you don't have to go through the tedious Phase 1 invasion stuff ... ;P

Hi Captain,

Go for it! Happy for any input etc. This has been the only scenario I have played regularly - for all the reasons you have mentioned... Once I saw CHS, I wanted this scenario in that format - and hence the effort to get it here.

If you want the data files in csv/excel format let me know. Hell of a lot quicker to edit.

I see that there are 3 sentai's in SouthEast Asia that are still attached to Kwantung Area.

I've been taking a serious look at the Japanese. Will do the Allies too afterwards.

There are loads of problems with LCUs being in the wrong place, assigned to the wrong HQ etc. Most of this is from the original scenario 13, which was a mess. It's also difficult to know what's what without knowing how the original scenario was merged with the CHS database.

Personally I wouldn't consider this playable yet. I'm going to try talking to strela about it "offline", will keep you posted :)

Yes please post what you find. If there are problems with the original scenario 13 then I can probably correct them in my scenario 113, which is derived from scenario 13.

OK I have talked to Strela. I will take on the editing for the many small niggly problems that exist. Unfortunately, despite using faster methods than the shipped scenario editor this will still take some time.

In the meantime, please keep posting here if you find anything wrong EXCEPT FOR incorrect HQ and objective assignments. I have those covered.

Thanks :)

Hi All,

Firstly thanks to Captain C - this has now become a joint production [:)]

As Andrew said I have used the basic Scenario 13 as my starting point etc. Changes to OB and HQ's are beyond the historical information I have here, so all advice appreciated.

We will keep working!

My aim is not to change anything historical since I know little about that. The problems I will be fixing are just things that don't make sense in the context of the game. Also, in some cases bringing things into line with the full CHS campaign where they obviously should be.

The list is:

1. Base HQs
2. Base Sizes
3. LCU HQs
4. LCU Locations
5. LCU Objectives and Prep Points
6. Air Group HQs
7. Air Group Locations
8. Industry and Production
9. Supplies and Fuel
10. Reinforcements
11. WiTPchk

Japan is first up and Item 2 is where I have got to with them so far. I will post a list of changes later today so people can see the sort of thing I am doing and why. It's a lot of changes and a lot of work ...

Finally, the method I am using to actually edit the scenario (a "build script") means that I can easily undo things if people disagree. So feel free to comment :)

CHS Scen 13 First Cut

OK I have now completed Items 1 & 2 for the Japanese. To show the kind of changes I am making I am attaching the change log here. If anyone wants to look at the actual scenario, to see if it still works for example, please email me at mattf@sprandom.com.
