I have loaded the completed scenario and positioned my units as i want them to appear but the File menu item “Save Scenario file" seems to be missing?
...am I missing something here?
....or is there REALLY something missing?

RE: menu item missing?
The scenario editor is built like a "wizard". You have to page to the end of the wizard, then it will prompt you to "save" where you can also do a "save as" to name the file how you want it.
Hope this helps.

RE: menu item missing?
thanks, perhaps I wasnt clear.
I havent had any problem saving the scenario file. What I want to do is save my units in specified positions on the battlefield so that when the scenario starts up, the units are in the places I want them to be and not just lined up in the default positions at the top of the setup area.
The manual says I should be able to do this and describes how to do it in the last paragraph on Page 106, but the menu item referred to in that paragraph doesnt seem to be exist.
I have used this method before without problems but that might have been in an earlier version of the game.
I might just be missing something glaringly obvious but I have studied this closely and I cant see what it might be.

RE: menu item missing?
embis,
I've brought the same point up to Rob a while back about the need to have a tab to goto setup and also to set defualt SOP's. I'm sure he will get to it. He still has a long list of items in fromt of him. Best way to get that ability is to set the game for head to head before jumping into the editor. Go thought make your changes. Save. Then hit Proceed. You will be able to do the setup for both sides after a few button clicks to clear dialogs. Once the WP side is complete it will offer you the chance to save again. Save. You should now have the scenario with the units placed as you like. You can either exit the game or start a new game from the menu to test out your changes.
Hope this helps.

RE: menu item missing?
Thanks Capn D, but my point is that a menu item referred to in the manual appears to be missing from the game.
See page 106 last paragraph. In the pregame setup phase, under the "File" menu header there should be an option to "Save as Scenario File". I cant see it.
.....if you can see it please direct me to your opticians, cos mine clearly arent up to the job.
[:D]
I was absolutely certain I had used this feature before, but I have reinstalled version 1.00 and had a look, and I cant see it there either.
Maybe I am just going nuts
If I am, just confirm it for me and I will slink off quietly.

RE: menu item missing?
Ok, there are two ways to do this.
1. Start up a game to play in the usual way. Move your units to the places you want them, then save. Continue playing, but make sure your next save is to a file with different name. Next time you want to play the scenario with those same start positions, just load the save game.
2. Second way is with the scenario editor. Just load the scenario you want to change. Then on the load screen, change the name shown on the upper right to something different.
Proceed to the force selection screen, select the unit parameters tab, and on the unit parameters screen edit the starting position of the unit. Repeat for all the units you wish to place. (To find where to put them, start up the scenario to play it, and make note of the map grid location where you want each unit).
When you're done, just proceed to the end by clicking on the "next" arrows, and save as usual, changing the name to a new scenario filename in save dialog screen.
I haven't ever a seen a "save scenario as" menu choice. This is an error in the manual left over from an earlier build, I think.

Thanks for that, a complex workaround but a workaround none the less. If people have to work this hard to make new scenarios, new scenarios will be scant.
I have seen this menu item, I have used it, I am not Nuts [:D].
It may well be from an earlier build, but it is useful, and simple, and removing it has got to be an error.
Making scenario design more complex is a retrograde step so I am sure this is a mistake...please....someone that can put this feature back in, read this post....pretty please[&o]
This has to be back in by the next release or I am just going to cry and cry and cry.

RE: menu item missing?
Well, the save command in the file menu of the main game (not the scenario editor) functions just like a "save as" command.... you can change the name of the file you are saving. Maybe that is what you remember.
Otherwise, I'm afraid I don't quite understand exactly which capability you are hoping to have if this command were implemented... i.e. you can already easily load an existing scenario, modify it slightly, and save it with a new name.

RE: menu item missing?
A complex work-around isnt really what I want.
The reason I want the menu item back in is because its straightforward and simple and does the job.
Anyway, thats my last word on this post. Hope someone significant gets to it.

RE: menu item missing?
That particular menu item is enabled if you:
1. start the game and select the extended scenario editor
2. load an existing scenario or start a new one.
3. proceed through the wizard and save your scn file in the normal way
4. when back at the main setup screen click Proceed to start using your just created scenario. (This tends to be the tricky step.)
5. When it enters the pregame setup phase the menu item you are looking for will become visible and will remain so until you are completely done the pregame setup phase. If you don't save it as a scn file then the game will pop up a little reminder dialog asking if you want to save it as an scn file!
This all works in the game you have now. Yes, I had one or two other queries about it in the past so it may not be as intuitive as I originally thought.

Perhaps what I can do is *always* enable it when any scenario is first launched and then make it invisible again when once the pre-game setup phase ends. Most people would not notice it or worry about it, but scenario designers would feel less frustrated!
I'll get that in for 1.03 - that is absolutely the last new feature though!
Cheers, Rob.

RE: menu item missing?
Hmmm
Thats what I am doing. I still dont see the item. I just went through the steps and wrote them down each time I made a selection, or saw something on the screen this is what i did, blow by blow..
(I am sure you are begining to feel like using a baseball bat on me blow by blow, but lets leave that for now)
(Help/about tells me I am running version 1.0.2)
I have run through the extended scenario editor and saved my scenario.
I am back at the flashpoint game setup screen.
Flashpoint game setup screen:
select prebuilt scenario tab
click on my homebuilt scenario
Hit proceed.
(briefings appear)
Hit proceed on briefing screen
(Dialogue box appears)
secure transmission "Sir, you may now drag and drop.... etc
Hit proceed on the dialogue box.
(now in pre-game setup phase)
I now start dragging and dropping my units until all are positioned and I am ready to save the scenario again.
at this point I expect to see, on the file menu, an option to "save as scenario file"
...It doesnt seem to be there.
My file menu has:
Game options
Save Game
Start new Game
Load PBEM
End game now
Exit
where am I going wrong here, I dont see it?
(straps on heavily padded jacket and saftey helmet and awaits the first blow of the baseball bat)
