Opp-fire by sub questions

Post by a511 »

i think when a transport move thro' a sea area occupied by an enemy sub, it should draw Opp-fire (let me know if otherwise, cos honestly, im not 100% comfortable with Opp-fire rules[:'(]).

my question is, given a sub has to resupply for torpedoes in around three turns (with its ammo shown as little torpedoes in its icon), i wonder whether the sub in question will use up all of its torpedoes after a max of 3 Opp-fires? if yes, am i right that if i got more than 3 transports moving thro' sea area guarded by a lone enemy sub. its a sure bet that a max of 3 transports wont make it with the remaining fleet smooth sailing to its destination??

besides, if an enemy sub stationed in a sea area with the transport, will the transport of goods via the transports (no actual movement of transport) draw Opp-fire?

of course im not saying that guarding a vital sea area will a lone sub is a good idea but i just want to explore whether it is a feasible to use sub instead of fleets (when they are all occupied else where) to block transport routes (esp in areas where their escorts are too busy somewhere).

I think that Opp Fire does NOT use supply, so the sub's torpedos should not be used up. Also, even if one was used it would be for the entire defensive turn, not 1 per attack. Of course reality may vary from my opinion [:'(]
Each successive Opp Fire would be at a reduction, so if you don't mind losing a few transports, you'll safely get past eventually.

yes a moving transport with generate a subs op-fire. if it hits then the sub uses up a torp.

I've sorta used the strat you're refering to, using up the subs torps in order for other ships to move past the sub unhindered. however I only really used this when I was desperate and couldn't mount an attack against the sub normally. it can be expensive when the sub has 2 or 3 torps remaining! :0

but how about the question:
if an enemy sub stationed in a sea area with the transport, will the transport of goods via the transport in question (no actual movement of transport) draw Opp-fire?

Oh yeah, I missed that question :P
Yes indeed! Moving a unit through a sub (or any ship) with strat-move will generate Opp-Fire on the transport even though the transport isn't "moving"
