advanced research bug

Post by Incy »

when I research past the world standard(at double cost) there is a bug:

1st turn I researched 2 points
2d turn I was allowed to research another 6 points, not 4

I think according to the rules I'm only supposed to be able to research 4 points.
It seems to me the code checking how much I can research does not account for research beeing at double cost. It sees 2 research points, allows me to spend 3, and then doubles the cost. Right ?

You are properly being allowed to spend 6 points on an item that costs double and for which you've already spent 2 points so far. You get 2 x (2+1) = 6. The 6 is how much you are allowed to spend. The actual total cost to generate an increase in the value is another thing.

Yes, that is what is happening, but I don't think it works as (it should be) intended.

in normal research, you get to do:
1+2+3+3,etc = 1->3->6->9, etc

for advanced, you get to do:
2+6+6+6,etc = 2->8->14->20, etc

This allows advanced research to be conducted faster than regular research.

I would think:
2+4+6+6,etc = 2->6->12->18, etc would be more consistent with how regular research works.

If this is allowed to stand, you can advance research in only 3 turns even if you have 10 units, which is not possible for regular research.

It's the way it was intended to work, although I see your point.
