The fact that a ship can sail from the Med to Gibraltar to the Atlantic without experiening Op-Fire from my artillery and bomber is rather annoying.
Side note, my Russian ally tells me that in the Winter season he did not recieve a +1 modifier. Can you confirm this? We may have stumbled on a glitch.

Yeah, I didnt get 1 plus on my evasion and he didnt get 1 lower evasion.
This i naturally didnt know until after i did my attacks an im not about to reload a turn so
it costed me alot more and him lot less than anticipated [:@]
Any how its been reported and file are send to Maurice for evaluation.
All those tanks he would have lost.... and Im not even going into how much less i would have lost, in both his and my phase of first winter turn. Men dont cry [:'(]
Oh well. Chit happens.
Thats the 4th bug i found in 1.033 this week and im gunning for the bugfinder award of the month [:D] U have time too invented if it doesnt excists yet Joel, hint hint.
Kind regards,
Rasmus

I'll still have your email in my deleted box, so I'll try reloading the save file tonight & see what happens if I try attacking. I didn't read reports of vlales attacks I don't remember attacking myself so not sure what happened if/when I attacked.
Doh, on 2nd thoughts I could have just read my own AAR right? hehe. Anyway have sent a zip file with some pictures to you vlale (Maginot's gmail address rejected the zip)
If you don't mind fellas' can we end this topic inside this thread now & keep it to email? Cheers [:)]

Germany, Summer 1942
A cracking summer campaigning from my perspective. The western front is quiet, mostly. In what I believe was an attempt to prevent my uboats sailing into the North Sea from German waters 2 fighters & 1 carrier air were left over Skagerak. From the Allied viewpoint this must have looked quite safe as I had only 2 fighters within sight. Unfortunately for them I had 3 fighters repaired last turn in Czechoslovika so 5 fighters engaged his flyers, destroyed the 2 fighters & damaged the carrier air for the cost of 2 damaged fighters myself. Nice exchange.
Lots of action on the Eastern Front. In the North I take 2 provinces holding resource points & 5 of my 9/9 tanks end their turn in Yaroslev just one province North of the capital. If all the units in Moscow attacked I would likely lose some if not all the tanks but this would almost definately be the end of Moscow because of . . . developments in the South.
So I make the big push into Kharkov, sending in 8 tanks & 1 infantry. My tanks are now almost impervious to all but his armour (which is conspiciously absent) & the result is therefore devastatingly one sided. My single infantry is damaged. Russian losses amount to 1 Infantry damaged, 1 destroyed, 3 Militia destroyed, 1 Artillery destroyed, 3 Flak destroyed (good riddance).
But my most pleasing achievement this season is yet to come. I send all 7 of my tac bombers into the Caucasus, stripping it completely of defenders for the loss of one plane. Then my triumphant paratroopers make their landing! I will likely lose them this turn for good but during this season the Russian has gone from 26 production points to 17 & both lend-lease routes are now basically finished.
Both my flak & artillery attack is increased at the end of the turn, my attention turns a little to defence of the Atlantic wall.

RE: Svend/Jagular vs Maginot/Vlale: Axis Thread
Germany, Fall 1942
The last two seasons have seen a pleasant lack of hostility from the Western Allies, allowing my full concentration on the Russians. However an Allied force has now landing meaningfully in Finland. With 5 ground units & 3 air units it is insufficient to threaten Leningrad at present, but I must take steps to counter it. The landing was unopposed as I was not defending Finland. Perhaps I should have to have made it more difficult.
I make a splendid attack into Rostov in the South. Not a single one of my panzers is so much as damaged, whilst every one of my panzers marks their target. In all 1 infantry, 1 paratrooper, 1 militia, 1 tank, 2 artillery & 2 flak are either damaged or destroyed.
At this point however, it is the remaining Russian resources I wish to destroy, so the fact that my paratrooper in the Caucasus survived Russian assault last turn is equal cause for joy. The remaining units in Grozny are destroyed by tactical bombing meaning that the there are no longer any Russian forces south of Stalingrad. The para's move into Northern Persia, destroying the resource point there.
The Russians are down to 16 production points. Also they have only 31 supply in total, of which 5 is in Southern Persia & 11 is the wrong side of a broken railway in Vladisvostock. There are 7 Soviet tanks now, but 16 production is not enough to even repair all the things I am damaging, never mind conduct research & produce supply. Something must give.

RE: Svend/Jagular vs Maginot/Vlale: Axis Thread
Germany, Winter 1943
Last season the Russkis pulled off something of a coup, driving into Kharkov & cutting off my panzer armee in Rostov from supply. In fact if it was not for the heavy bomber I have based in Rumania, it would have been dangerous stuff! With supplies carried in via air I assault the Russian armour, destroying both units that had remained. The tactical victory is his, but I draw consolation from the fact I am unlikely to face replacement armour.
After reinforcing Leningrad, I extend myself somewhat in the North, moving into Kazan from where I can push into Siberia if left unmolested. This turn the Russian will I think have to choose between attempting another assault on Kharkov, trying to push me back from Rostov, or repelling me from Kazan. However I really believe he can do only 1 of these things, not just because of his available forces but his dire supply situation (see the map)
My new uboat force makes a wake-up call to the Allies, after Luftwaffe remove the Allied air cover over Scotland & the ocean north of Scotland. 4 submarines each bag a prize, 1 transport, 1 light fleet, 1 heavy fleet, 1 carrier. More uboats still slide into service. The Allied player has invested heavily in anti-sub capability . . . well he shall need it.
Rather than sit idle, I send in the Luftwaffe again against the Allied forces in Norway. There was a heavy bomber, tac bomber & a fighter stationed there & they could have cut my baltic supply chain. After agonising over how best to defend it I decided attack was preferable. The outcome was quite pleasing as fighters are easily repaired.
My production is still going at full tilt, I am unconstained by resource shortages & have plenty of supply. I am now thinking about bolstering my Atlantic defences.

RE: Svend/Jagular vs Maginot/Vlale: Axis Thread
Germany, Spring 1943
As the season began, I was very dismayed to see the decline of my Japanese ally. In my last/first PBEM the Japs were knocked out in 1942, & receiving the full attention of Russkis & Allies is not pleasant. My reaction last time was to pull back & fight a defensive war very early on. I considered doing the same again. Instead however, I decide to unleash as much righteous fury as I am capable upon my perfidious foes, trying for the knockout blow against Russia so that I can fight a (mostly) 1 front war.
So this is why Germans now stand triumphant in the ruins of MOSCOW! Not only that, but the surviving defenders are pocketed to the West without supply. This was not easy and indeed would not have been possible without my single paratrooper unit. I swear this has been my most valuable unit in the game. Having previously taken Grozny & the Caucasus my para's are transported by sea to Rostov where they are loaded upon a heavy bomber & dropped east of Moscow. This cuts Moscow off from the east. Then I send in every panzer unit I have available from the North & South, 11 in total, against the massed Soviet defenders. Virtually incapable of knocking out my tanks, the Russians are routed & the survivors should be able to be destroyed piecemeal.
Moscow is a terrific location to base armour, as it creates a circle in which I can launch crushing blows against any counter-attacks to the north or south. It also unites my panzer armees into one mostly unstoppable force.
I reinforce Leningrad with armour, artillery & infantry to guard against an Allied attack. I also hold my breath as I send in 2 wolfpacks against consolidated Allied flotillas. Several fleets are sunk, including 2 carriers. The golden days of the u-boats are still here [:)]

Svends U-Boats cannot be stopped. My carriers were out of range, so unless you managed to get your fighters up to speed FOUR your U-Boats bypassed two CAGs and some light fleets! At least I can take comfort in my Pacific campaign.

Your light fleets damaged 1 of my subs & your carrier-air groups damaged another. However although I suffered carrier-air op-fire when moving back out of the sea areas not a single hit registered on 7 u-boats! (perhaps because I gritted my teeth especially hard)

Germany, Summer 1943
Japan is all but out of the war. This cements my belief that bringing the US into the war early is a bad thing (see my first AAR also).
I am desparately & boldly striking against the Russian, striving to cripple him before the Allies can begin to land crushing blows against me. At the beginning of the season I see that he chose to break into Kursk (against 1 militia) thus ending the pocket I had established around his troops in Smolensk. However, with all the surrounding railways broken he was unable to move up any fresh supplies. There is only 1 thing I can do in this situation. Yes. Extend the pocket.
I have no interest in attacking troops that I can disable, so my first moves are to retake Rostov & then move north from there. This cuts off 7 infantry, 3 artillery, 4 flak & 1 fighter from supplies. Although in theory he could break through from the East again with armour this season, to do that and fix two railways would consume almost his entire supply reserves. I very much doubt he will try. If he does the pocket will simply get bigger.
What I think he will do, is attempt to respond to the 9 tank units I have placed in Kazan, gateway to the Urals. He has 8 or 9 tank units nearby (the other units visible are infantry or flak). I'd like him to attack, as that should result in mutual destruction but with me able to follow up quickly with additional armour. Alternatively he can concentrate his defenders in one province, probably the Central Urals, which will deter my attack but allow me to destroy the Northern & Southern Urals industry.
Against the Allies, I trade blows in Finland, but keep my uboats relatively quiet. Despite having many uboats in production, the constant attrition has kept my operational force small. The damage done to 2 uboats lagered in Netherlands last turn was a bitter blow. To fight against his teched up fleets I want to form a consolidated wolf-pack that will take his entire armada to dispose of. This may be folly, but I'm going to try it anyway.

RE: Svend/Jagular vs Maginot/Vlale: Axis Thread
Germany, Fall 1943
The Russian actually chose to break through to his pocketed units, fix the railways & move up sufficient supply to launch an assault. All most unwelcome. At the beginning of the turn my battle group in Kazan are completely cut off from supplies therefore.
The Allies meanwhile had surged past Denmark into the Baltic, landing a lone militia in the Baltic states (breaking the railway line).
This season presented my greatest set of dilemnas yet. Here is what I did first:
1. Tac bombers operating from Rumania damaged both the units stationed in Kursk
2. More tac bombers actually managed to hit the armour unit stationed west of Kursk
3. Kursk was then secured by armour
4. Supplies in Kiev & Kharkov were used to repair the railways in Kursk & Gorky
5. 13 supplies were able to be transported from Rumania through to Grozny, where they could be used by my panzers in Kazan!
Coup! The subsequent result in the Central Urals is pleasing. 7 of 9 (any star trek fans?) Panzers stay intact whilst 4 Russian tanks are damaged. He is now down to 5 tanks in total and just 11 production points. There are no more breakouts or encirclements that are possble for him to achieve. The Russian now has no choice but to simply defend what he has left. With my active Panzers in the East outnumbering his 2:1 I regard this as the end of the war in the East insomuch as the outcome now is not in doubt.
Scambling meanwhile to respond to the Allied incursion, I destroy their transport link then reinforce Denmark with artillery & air cover. The Baltic states are retaken & the railway repaired. It remains to be seen whether my uboats will be able to deal with the Allied fleet in the Baltic before it can do anything I shall regret.
Luckily last turn was the first that I had really built a good surplus of supplies. If not for that, this season would have turned out much differently. The Allied player now has air superiority over Western Europe, despite my efforts to ramp up flak & fighter construction. I am just grateful that I can begin deploying Panzers along my Atlantic wall.

Germany, Winter 1944
The screenshot below now represents my main focus. My submarines now replace my tanks as the primary fighting forces. This turn they do well, destroying a carrier, a heavy fleet & 2 transports northwest of Scotland. 7 subs end their turn in this area, braving the inevitable Allied reply.
The Allied fleet in the Baltic is still present, & I make no move to dislodge it this season at all. Rather I move what naval forces I have into the southern part of the Baltic, so that I at least deny him the possibility of an amphibious invasion without a very serious fight indeed. My tac bomber, 5 submarines & heavy fleet face off against his 2 heavy fleets, 3 light fleets & 2 transports.
To be honest I would not have done this, but for the fact that an air armada was committed to the Skagerrak to prevent my uboats sallying forth. An unsporting move indeed, but very effective as I doubt any uboats could have made it through at all.
In the East I take Rostov & repair some facilties, taking me up to 42 production points, quite alot of which is now going on research. Evasion 11 tanks are 1 season away - they must be King Tigers [:)]
