How do you change targets?

Okay. I finally got a draw after a couple of games figuring out the system. The one thing that is REALLY PISSING ME OFF is that I cannot seem to switch targets with the scanner. THe only way I got a titan to change its lockon was when I moved out of sightof its target and and thus lost the first lock.

Would someone be so kind as to tell me, in stupid simple baby steps, exactly how to do this?

I tried turning off the scanner and turning it back on; didn't work.
Hitting the lock-on target button (first button, top row): all this did was select the hex and let me right click in the control window to cancel my action.

I could have won my last random battle if I could have quit shooting at the face down next to last titan and shot the remaining functional one. Have I said how frustrated I am? I have been getting my head handed to me repeatedly. Well 4 or 5 times at rookie vs rookie in even battles and I am a pretty good gamer as a general rule so this is unusual and really hard to figure out why. I have finally gotten the hang of the system and kinda see what works and what does not. I think I can really like the game but gotta figure out the targetting thing in order to move onward.

Target locking is explained in the manual. You did read it, right ?

Use the lock target button and either rightclick on the hex with the target or leftclick and select the target with the little arrow buttons left and right on the popup window.
