Jap Paras ... Cannot land in a non base hex ?

Post by ROSLEY »

Hello,
I notice you cannot land a para unit in non base hex ... does not seem quite logical to me
Any explanation ?
It seems that the paras if used well have to land one hex away to carry out missions of isolation etc as they did . Landing on top of a unit does not seem quite right considering they are 60 mile hexes .

I assume they carry out a shock assualt ?? I do not know yet as my plan is still a turn or so away .

Are they asumed to land with some supply and I assume you leave the air units on dropping supply after the initial landing .

Regards

Right - can not drop on a non-base hex. Complaints have been made, but i think this is in concession to the 60-mile hex business - it would be too easy to cut troops off with paras if they could drop in a non-base hex.

That was exactly my plan !!!

But that was one of the purposes of these units cut communications in front of an advance , seize bridges etc etc
Thanks and Regards

Sorry, can't, you would have entire armies surrendering to a handful of paras. Try landing those squads behind your opponents main army with a sub, that works as long as you are on the water. As far as I can tell, planes fly too fast to find 60 mile wide hexes without big neon signs that read "Base Here".

Its bad enough as it is paras are extremely annoying.

Its especially bad for the allies as it can take forever to get rid of a few squads of IJ para due to the surrender rules and they can make whole armies surrender even if they fly through an impossible cap.

With the current zoc rules allied with paras is very very annoying.

Burzmalis suggestion works but anyone in a PBEM that used that tactic would hear the howls of protest as it is imho VERY VERY gamey.

Unless you are playing a totally no holds barred game then I wouldnt risk your PBEM opponent quitting over something like that.
