Setting my scouts to pick up artifacts/do missions

In first few star systems my scouts battled artifact "guardians" automaticly and picked up and then I ordered them to return:

In faraway systems that they explored they didnt pick/try fight for artifacts. I can set them to explore system again, but they still do nothing there. And in special missions menu there is only option to pick up 1 wisdom artifact (from 8 unpicked artifacts visible)

already found out that my ships were out of missiles and how to refit them
