RE: June approaching... war seeing no happy endings...
Hi again
Re china , if you want to disengage troops from a base hex you have to give movement orders to another base NOT and 'empty' hex hext door. I found this out the hard way too in china.
also the chinese armoured unit is very good for poking arond his rear areas , just try and avoid wooded hexes.
Nice going getting some US units to Karachi, will prove to be very useful i hope.
how is the AVG at the moment ? got it upto P40E's ? im struggling with mine as P40B's and not enough replacements to keep up with losses.
unlucky attack on ichagh there, worth having a pop though, it will force him t keep garissons around and the less you have to face at the front the better..
anyway good luck and nice AAR very interesting

RE: China becomes the major operational theatre...
Thanks for the comments Rob... and that "trick" on how to disengage troops is vital! As for now I have given orders to move my troops out of the city Ichang!
Well, I seem to have similar upgrade problems with AVG... those are still P40B's and I'm just hoping for that I can upgrade to P40E's as soon as possible.
The situation is getting nasty in China... I will post more in the general review of the situation.
Things are heating up though.. he has now rested his troops and will be in a hurry to launch offensives if he aims to achieve autovictory 1942!
Oh, and I have been busy IRL and have not had time to comment your AAR... intresting reading though as I have stated earlier!
Game date is now 6th of June 1942
Well, China will become major battleground if my opponent is to be believed. He has stated that 9 out of the 10 best divisions are now in positions inside China!!! That means that he has heavily committed his forces here... things should get clearer within couple of days time!
If the statement above is correct than I'm in trouble! ...but on the other hand here is an oppurtunity!!! The key is not get my units to surrender and killed completely! I can make fighting retreat towards Yunan and hopefully than towards India! That consumes his forces and gives me good amount of infantry troops! ..hopefully this scenario or plan plays out as described... it also will slow his advances and time is the key here as it was before in Philippines and Malaya campaigns!
Also, 1st major airstrike againts Noumea was launched.. those Japanese aircraft suffered heavy losses and are welcomed to strike again! Only good Japanese pilot is dead Japanese pilot!
Otherwise it has been "quiet"... my troop deployment continues and I'm preparing for offensives of my own! ... I'm in no hurry though... patience is a virtue as the saying goes!

Massive Japanese assault about start in China...
Game date is now 8th of June 1942
Japanese offensive in China is about to start... and it has a lot of infantry involved. Remember that he has +200000 troops around Sian already... well I was very much suprised to see that (If my intelligence is correct) he has 17 units placed in Yenen too!!! This is very alarming news indeed... Only thing I wonder is where does he get this kind of a force!
I do not exactly how many troops are in Yenen so I did order bombardment attack to find this out... but I have a feeling that I do not like number! I'm also trying to break out of northern Sian... those troops are now trying to reach Central China... that is a place that they do serve better as defensive force.
It is still quiet in Central and North pacific.. just supply ships moving around nothing more.
In South Pacific he has stopped the air attacks againts Noumea... recon flights are still daily but no offensive action is taken! I wonder when he unleashes his navy and units in this sector.
Burma and India has been quiet.. allthough I did spot some units on their way towards Lashio and Jorhat... but all in all quiet and IJN now do hold Mandalay... whether it was an mistake to abandon the base I do not know!
Two questions which I would like to know are... 1) Where does he get so much infantry units that are in China????? and 2) Where is the Japanese navy????
That is the situation raport... and here are few combat reports:

Northern China under attack... over 400000 infantry troops spotted!
Game date is now 10th of June 1942
Well, as the headline states Northern China is under heavy assault... there are now +200000 enemy troops in Sian and +200000 troops in Yenen!!! Situation isn't looking good! Last turn was the downfall of Yenen... those brave Chinese infantry troops had to retreat againts overwhelming enemy offensive. Hopefully they were able to inflict damage to the industry and resources facilities before that happened!
This is an massive assault and he has to have massive suppy levels shipped to China! I would love inflict damage to his supply routes but I do not know how to do it!
The current situation is critical... I have ordered those troops that retreated from Sian to try and march towards Chunking.. Hopefully they are able make the journey... since if my opponent deciedes to try pinzer movement he can crush those troops and those that left Yenen totally... and at least he can isolate them.. either way that is not what I want!
Next few days will bring more light to the situation!
In other areas it has been quiet... still no sign of KB or any other Japanese Navy vessels! Only thing I can think is that are somewhere near Truk region since my signit (intelligence) indicates that 5th IJN division is enroute towards Lunga!!! I don't think he has sent these kind of troop deployments without proper coverage!
Burma is pretty quiet.. I have now retreated to Myithkina and hopefully I can still hold Burma road open... It is intresting to see what his plans here are... since he has a lot of troops also in this region!
Those are the major developments... next few days are going to be critical... anyway here are few combat reports again:

RE: Northern China under attack... over 400000 infantry troops spotted!
Re your questions
1- could well be a 'maskirovka' 17 units can mean 17 inf divs OR 17 sundry rubbish. If he's split his inf units too this could cause mis leading unit numbers ( just a possibility)
2- no idea either but your guess on Truk is probably right
china is looking like a complete mess i'm sorry to say. I think you are correct to try and keep the back door open to india if you can, but dont run away unless it looks like your going to be cut off. also i was reading anothet thread about chinese units not surrendering if completely surrounded. ?? maybe leave a few behind to tie forces down and 'cut' the forwand movement of supplies.
speed bumps can work too. 1-2 corps per hex can really slow down an advance. all you do is run the 'beaten unita back to town and let the next bumb hold up the japs for a few turns so you can get away.
also glad i could help out with the movement problem you were having. is it working ok now ?

RE: Northern China under attack... over 400000 infantry troops spotted!

China is still major theatre of operations. I have evacuated those troops that retreated from Sian towards Central China and Chunking... those troops made succesfull river crossing last turn. The downside is that this move has left Northern China defendless... but in my judgment this was the right thing to do. Those troops that left Yenen are now trapped and will conduct guerilla warfare... hopefully I can make something usefull with them.
There are no ongoing offensives happening at the moment... oh, and those 17 units are not joke... as stated he has now over +400000 infantry units stationed in northern China!
As Rob suggested that I should try to get units behind enemy lines would be useful... well that is hard since he has positioned his forces in good fashion and thus made this kind of tactic very hard to execute.
Burma has seen Japanese advance too.. some of the Japanese infantry units have now reached Myithkina. As this has happened I have ordered those troops to be repelled from the base... hopefully I can make a succesfull offensive. Otherwise I have kept bombarding Akyab from air and launched few ground strikes in Burma from air too.
India and South Pacific have been peacefull... few submarine attacks around Marshalls are reported but not much more. The signit intelligence indicates however that Japanese are moving infantry divisions towards South Pacific.

RE: Northern China under attack... over 400000 infantry troops spotted!
You look to be in good shape. Any reason for going for oil hits rather than using your B17's to start shutting down his airfields in SWP?

Good question... Well I have bombarded the Industry/Oil and such because I would like to cause damage to his production capabilities... also I would like him to use his supplies to repair those factories! I don't know if I should start bombing his airfields all over the place! You think that would be better use of my aircraft? [:)]
Not much happened in the past 2 days... I did launch 2 airstrikes againts Bulla's resource centers and managed to get nice hits with Australian based B17's!
In Burma those advanced unit was repelled from Myithkina...and Akyab was still used as target practise of my bombers! I have also "barricaded" Rangoon with my Submarine fleet so it should be hard to get anything in there without me knowing it.
Situation isn't too bad but it could be better if I had played more aggressive in Philippines and If I would have send enough supply to Singapore when I had the chance... same goes for Manila!

Game date is now 22nd of June 1942
Last two days didn't reveal anything new hints about my opponents future plans.
He has allthough sent couple of units towards Industrial cities in Northern China... Not much I can do about that since only units available are those that retreated from Yenen.
On the positive side I did manage to launch couple of nice airstrikes againts Bulla... but the strike againts Luganville wasn't that effective.
I'm still uncertain what his future plans are in Burma... He has two choices... 1) Stabilize situatíon in there or 2) Try to get closer to India... only safe bet is that he is trying to close down Burma road by capturing Myithkina.

RE: Northern China under attack... over 400000 infantry troops spotted!
Just a thought, but have you got enough troops to try a coup de main against luganville? real monster landing force of 3 divs ? and a few hexes behind the base forces and maybe HQ . along with CD and AA and engineers.
Its only a short hop from noumea and would really help the SW pacific situation. Its also short enough that you probably dont need the CV's too.
Also i learnt that putting CA's and CL's in invasion/transport task forces really helps cut down the landing losses.
Good luck clearing mythilinka .. if hes in the hex supply to china is already cut, he dosnt need to take the base to avhieve that? any spare chinese units you can send down the burma road ? I know its a long trip but it might be useful, also the plethora of chinese HQ's means its easy to swop command of a small hq an send it to burma. I believe this will really help with replacements and support issues.
Good luck anyway .. seriusly glad you decided to continue the AAR

The war turns to July 1942...
Game date is now 6th of July 1942
Couple of weeks has passed since the last update.
China still is the major operational area... He has now captured Kungchang in northern China. I have sent those infantry units that retreated from Yenen into the city. They are about to launch counter offensive there and try to recapture the city. I have a feeling though that this offensive wohn't succeed.
Also he now controls the crossroad hex that leads to Kweiyang and Chungking... that is not good but I doubt that he will be launching his major offensives from here since most of his infantry divisions are in Northern China. One thing is for certain and that is that he will be going for Chungking near future and I don't think I have strength to deny that offensive. Anyway, that remains to be seen...
In Burma there has been heavy aircraft duels around Akyab... I have lost a lot of planes but I think I did manage to close the airfield at least temporarily. I'm still holding Myithkina and have kept the Burma road open.
India is queit... I have now recieved few more quality infantry troops so the defenses are now much more tougher if he chooses to attack this region. Again Bad new though since I have to withdraw 1 CL + 2 DD this month too...
Good points and suggestions Rob... I have actually thinked about invading Luganville... the problem with this operation is that those troops should be carried from the Central Pacific region... the journey isn't long though and It might be worthwile operation! This would also mean that I should concentrate my CV fleet too... and I'm a bit reluctant to do so when I have no idea where his KB and BB's are stationed... still no sign of them and that is somewhat suprising!
If I have choose to go ahead with this kind of operation than I could propably succeed and hit Marshall Islands hard... Tarawa and Luganville are both possible targets. He now controls Koumac and that is in the northern tip of Noumea... I'am not too worried though since he will have hard time of bringing any reinforcements there!
Northern Pacific has been relatively quiet... he hasn't done any major invasion nor bombing runs there.
My submarines have now infested the Marshall Island's... hopefully they can score some valuable hits there.
Anyway that is a brief account what has been going in... here are few combat reports:

RE: The war turns to July 1942...
Blimey , Akyab is a busy place in the air !
Well maybe taking my advice isnt too god an idea , i did i similar invasion of canton is. in feb 42 with 2 divs and support coming in the day after.. The invasion was a complete success ! .. BUT the escorting CV's got clobbered by the KB ( i didnt know where it was and gambled ) and lost 4 ! eek !
maybe take the cen pac divs to noumea first and leave the merchants in port while they recover fat and disruption for a few days then load up and go clobber luganville .. use bombardment tf's too ! run back to noumea 'if' the KB shows up.
well just and idea and luganville is closer to home ports than tarawa .. so a bit safer imo.
anyway just my 2c .. good luck !

Heavy air combat in Burma... Pressure in China intensive...
Game date is now 10th of July 1942
China is in flames... he is preparing to launch assaults all around this region. I have now spotted another 100 000 men gathering in Central China near the Kweiyang and Chungking cross roads... this is not good news and I do have to remember that he has another +400 000 troops in Northern China... There is heavy pressure placed on China. Also he has now started air campaigns in this region too... he is launching his planes from Hanoi, Sian, Yenen and Changsa.
I guess he was not joking when he stated that he will move in 1 500 000 troops to capture China... I will be making a fighting retreat in this region... the key is to keep the backdoor to Burma and India open if I'am succesfull with this than he will be in for a long fight!
The air campaign in Burma has been raging fiercely too... I have hit Mandalay hard with airforces... and he has committed his planes in action too.. heavy AC losses to both sides are being inflicted. Ground campaign hasn't continued yet in this region... but I doubt it will remain quiet for too long since I still hold Myithkina and thus have Burma road open for business.
Intresting idea Rob... I have my CV's upgrading Devastators to TBM Avengers as we speak... this makes my operations far more safe if and when I deciede to launch them... but as you said it is not safe until I have somekind of a clue where the KB and the Japanese fleet are... if I knew this than It would make decisions far more easier...
There is also other development in the South... He seems to have massive forces gathered here a lot of troops here if the unit count is to be believed... 10-20 Units in Lunga, Rabaul, Gili Gili, Port Moresby and over 200 000 in Truk!!! I'm just thinking that he might be going for Australia or he is just waiting my moves here... Either way he seems to have South Pacific fortified strongly.

RE: Heavy air combat in Burma... Pressure in China intensive...
Game date is now 14th of July 1942
Japanese airforce has now started massive bombing of Kweiyang... there is not much opposition from Chinese airforce. I have now dispatched 1 squadron of fighters in attemp to soften these attacks but I think those Chinese pilots will be eaten alive. Also there is a Japanese infantry units heading towards Kweiyang through Central China... total amount of the infantry with this spearhead is about 100000 men.
The Chinese assault in northern China was unsuccesful... those troops are now ordered to retreat even further towards North.
So far there has not been any serious attemp to move towards Chungking but this offensive will start soon no doubt about it. As you can see Japanese have now concentrated a lot of troops in order to overrrun China completely.
As previous days the heavy aircraft duels in Burma have continued... both sides suffering heavy casualties... last two turns I have attacked Mandalay airstrip but now it is time to bomb Akyab again.
Still no sign of KB nor any other major surface vessels... I wonder what he is up to...????
I have issued an order to start preparing for Operation Hawk... this is still TOP secret and will be revealed in due time!!!
Nort Pacific has been quiet as well as India.. Allthough Japanese aircraft did try to bomb Chandspur last turn but those pilots were unsuccesfull. The good news is that I have now recieved more solid infantry troops in South East Asia.. so this simply means that it wohn't be a walk in the park for Japanese nomore.
Here are couple of combat reports as usual:

China under heavy pressure.... 20 Japanese division participating in the offensive...
Game date is now 16th of July 1942
Massive IJN offensive in China continues... if the Japanese propaganda is right than he have now committed 22 Divisions + Corps to do this offensive!!! I do not know whether to believe it or not since I have no clue what kind of strenght Japanese have in the game!!! He also states that he has 10 divisions in reserve + 1 tank division!!! Could this kind of a force be true???
Oh... and after the China has fallen he has stated that he will move 2 000 000 men to India and finish business there! ..that is the information he has given to me! Propably it ain't the whole truth but how close is it???
Japanese airforces continued to hit Kweiyang hard... those brave Chinese pilots caused some harm to the intruders.. Hopefully they will continue to do so in forthcoming days too. There has also been some infantry movements by Japanese in Central China. It is still unclear what is the strenght of these troops but I have a feeling that I will soon find out.
I didn't attack Mandalay last turn since I let my aircraft bomb Akyab. This time though I will hit Mandalay again and heavy casualties are to be expected on both sides! Otherwise not much to report from Burma.
I have also ordered my ac's to bomb Luganville airfield... Hopefully they can cause somekind of a damage to it.
Also my bombers hit Lautern hard from Northern Australia... and they will continue to do in forthcoming turn.
As I stated there are plans for an offensive that will launched in due time... I will give more information about this soon.

Kweiyang targeted by the Japanese...
Game date is now 18th of July 1942
The heavy air combats continue in China, Burma and Luganville... both sides suffering heavy casualties as expected.
It seems that the IJN offensive in China has two spearheads... 1 going towards Chungking and 1 towards Kweiyang... the last 2 days have seen massive air bombardments of Kweiyang and the chinese fighter pilots have been working endlessly. I have no idea about strenght of incoming forces from South China but I would estimate them to include over 100 000 troops.
I did launch an air assault againts Mandalay last turn and it was somewhat of a succesfull operation. I will continue to do so and this time I have increased the amount of ac's which are involved. Intresting to see what kind of results I do get!
My airplanes also bombarded Luganville airfields... they managed to get hits but suffered heavy losses as well... I have ordered them to strike again this turn too since I do want cause distrubtion and cause supply shortage among other things.
Also my bombers hit Lautern again this time... and the results were very encouraging.... basically that base is unoperational for time being!

RE: The war turns to July 1942...
Game date is 20th of July 1942
Air war continues as previous update indicated... Heavy losses on both sides are being reported!
I wohn't relief the pressure in forthcoming turns either because it is time to start causing Japanese casualties in their pilot pools! ...Mandalay and China will be the most active theatres around.
I have plenty of Spitfire squadrons now in India... Only downside is their range... just 2 hexes kind of minimizes their offensive capabilities unfortunately.
No ground combat reported in last 2 days... there were however IJN infantry moving towards Kweiyang and Chungking through Southern and Central China.

RE: The war turns to July 1942...
your chinese a/f is getting creamed ! yes you are attriting his pilots a bit, any plans on maybe seding some spits to china if you can. as you already said they have awful range but they make great point defence fighters. I think they would be most useful in Kweiyang at the moment. (obvously rang will be a problem but can they fly between myth and china ?
Get some more b17s to noumea and pummel luganvilla into the stone age. Im guessting you must have 200+ in the region. hudsons die like flies vs zeros and why are you using catalinas as gound attack a/c ? i've never seen that before ? or are they recon ?
As a suggestion if you have time of course ( and this isnt meant badly) how about cutting down on the combat report and using 'chat' to discuss the way the wars going and selective cut n paste . I find it makes reading an interesting AAR much easier ( but just my opinion )..
as always good luck !

Thanks again for the comments Rob. First of all my Chinese airforce are putting up a fight... yes, they are getting creamed but they are causing damage to the Japanese too. I have been thinking about sending few Spitfire squadrons to China but it is not easy to get them there unless they can fly there from Ledo...(I don't have any Base units in Myithkina so it is not an option to base ac's there) ... I might look into this and see if I could send 1 or 2 base units to that base.
I have some B17's and LBA in South Pacific... a lot of them are bombing from Darwin as you can see from AAR... I'am a bit doubtfull of placing more ac's to Noumea since I have no clue what my opponent is up to... and he could use his naval assets to close down the whole airfield in Noumea if he chooses to concentrate enough firepower there! Those PBY's are flying recon missions in order to achieve better results bombing crews.
Hmmm.. using "chat" to discuss how the war is going?... sorry, I don't understand what you mean by that.
