Wow!

Post by rowech »

I've now played 2.5 games of this doozy and I have to say...I'm feeling overwhelmed. I do believe I have the basics down other than how in the world to land sea troops. My one shining moment was getting about 25 units into Gibraltar and then into Spain while at the same time I was beating Germany on the Eastern front. Somehow, Germany had awful odds and beat me in Spain...handily...they then ran me out of Gibraltar and the end was near as I would never set foot there again. Germany suddenly got its production to go all on the east front, counterattacked and captured Moscow.

I really feel as if I have the basics down except for two areas. One is anything dealing with transports. I can move items by setting up a chain of transports but have no idea how to land an amphious assault. I had a massive group of ships and units but it would not land anywhere.

Secondly, I think I might be greatly underestimating the science aspect of things.

All in all, I think it's probably a great game but alas, I think it might be too much for me!

Sounds like you're doing fine so far. There is a thread called "amphib assult" that is currently halfway down the main page. It should answer your questions. Also remember that you cannot amphib into cold areas during Winter turns.

As for research, that's a game in itself. It's very important to keep up with your opponent. At first, it's best to play without Fog of War. Check out the items that your opponent is researching (using the Unit Data Screen). Try to keep up with what your opponent is doing. Also, as the Western Allies, be sure to invest heavily in ASW right from the start or you'll have trouble with the German submarines.
All understanding comes after the fact.

Amphibious Assault:

[friendly land]->[transport]->[transport]->[2 or more transports]->[enemy land]

Now, take one or more friendly units from your "friendly land" and move them to the "enemy land" via your transport chain and engage in combat. Note that it usually takes 2 transports to land one unit in an amphibious assault (tanks take more). The exception Japan which can land one infantry unit for each transport in an amphip assault.
