Does it appear in the picture at about 3 o'clock in the montage, that some of the defenders are actually running away from, or at least parallel to and not pursuing, the guy with the ball?

If they were tied up in the blocking they would have had to turn around. The pursuit angle code is pretty tight in the game.

I must say, this screenshot looks very much on par with Madden 2001 (which is not far removed from today's version). It's definitely WAY better than Madden 2000.

Vastly improved from even the earlier iteration that was posted on the MaxFB website also. Your hard work is paying dividends, although not financially yet. By the tone of this site, it's clear that will change too once it's finally released. People are clamoring for it if you haven't heard...
