WAW Germany attks Russia Fall 40

Post by MikeB »

YES, 1940.
Such testosterone induced hostile aggression was not even attempted by Hitler.

Advanced supply rule.
The French Paris factories are NOT yet repaired.

In 25 years of gaming...much of it on WWII...I have never seen such aggression...by myself or others! There is usually good reason. I believe i remember reading an account where in the real war, German troops were restricted from advancing from their Polish position until the local Russian rail trains of wheat moving west toward Germany had safely passed the check-points.

In the game, some 3 Russian resource points are freely given to Germany - including the turn that Germany attacks. I believe this represents about 10% of German production.

Perhaps my ruse of removing supplies from Russian troops in Western Russia was too much of a good opportunity for my opponent. Killing tanks with militia must have been such excitement.

Spys report that my opponent -Herr Mario - personnally visited Kiev to pin medals on the 4 corps of militia troops that captured Kiev. Pictures of the event show the Russian airforce in junk piles in the background. Rumour has it that the brave militia were even braver. More than one succombed to the length of the pin of the medal...piercing his heart while at attention!

Ah well, the increased production multiplier of Russia and no more trains of wheat crossing to Germany should lead to a robust revenge. The coming immediate 1st Russian Winter turn should see the German lackees running for cover.

The new objective is Berlin in Fall 43!

but wait. What is this i hear. The Moscow heavy bomber attacking German artillery in Eastern Poland has prompted the Finns to declare war! This is unprecedented. We were only defending ourselves.
I suggest Matrix look at the rule book vs this event to ensure the game action and the rules intent is consistent.

Perhaps the Japs can be encouraged to attack Western Ally interests in the Pacific for next turn - winter 41!

Russian Choices...
Maintain the factory in Belorussia with NO defence...other than 2 new trusty partisans and the tac bomber about to be built....or pull the factory out to the east.
The other choice...seeing as there are 4 transports in Gulf of Finland...defend Leningrad or pull out...again losing production of factory in Leningrad.

Well, the turn is sent off to the German guy...with a what appears to be a good size Russian force in Leningrad.[8|]

There is something to be said for an early attack on Russia. But I'm usually too busy out west, down south and so forth. Plus the X3 factory multiplier doesn't help much if you don't have enough resources (repaired ones that is) to support them.

Could be interestig stragidy for an experience player I would think, something I'm not. Think about it, hit russia right off the bat before they can gain strength, I started my battle one turn too late I fiqure now. It will cost me but I think I have a darn good chance of succeding if I don't do anything too stupid.

re previous note about release of Finland on Moscow defense attack.

Joel clarified for me that the Karelian Garrison for release of Finland is checked at end of player turn(production? or movement?) to see if garrison is adequate.

This ALSO applies at end of any COMBAT.

[:(][:(]
Russian Turn 5 is now complete.
Details details. It is now the German quandary as to WHICH of 2 major targets to hit.
I, the Russian; am hoping my tech advancements have finally made for survival...but nothing is certain until the fat lady sings(movie: Independence Day).
[:(][:(]

[&o][&o][&o][&o][&o]
Britain is just bursting with excitement.
Nothing but GOOD GOOD news from the far east.
Churches are overflowing ...but the reason is questioned by those in authority.
Apparently, there is some lament about the misguidance of German youth in submarines who will need to die to assuage their stupidity.
[&o][&o][&o][&o][&o]

There are reports all across the Pacific about dearth of supplies. Women who work alongside naval bases are protesting to their governments for want of food. There is rumour that one base used REAL LIVE AMMUNITION to drive protesters away. There is even more strange rumour that several bases had teams of machine gun posts set up along base borders.
[:'(]Your ever vigilent newsmen are following up on these reports and will advise you ...SOON
- stay tuned to your radios
![:'(]
MPs -who previously escorted armed forces personnal from the bars and other unsavoury places back to barracks, now appear to be assisting the few officers from their offices to their beds. More rumour has it that some are being forced at gun point...to their beds.[;)]

Meanwhile, political pundits -who just last week were speculating as to recent public criticisms to Japan for warmongering, have strangely fallen silent. This is unprecedented after the recent house bill to enlarge the armed forces without conscription.[&:][&:]

Yes, TRULY,
[:@][:@]the Japs invaded an inland province of China. -PATOW[:@][:@]

News-update :
With some 200 resources now in Allied storage...all we await now are the completion of the 6 factories being built.

More news from the Far east.
Vladivostok is in the hands of those despicable Japanese.
Their unprovoked attack on Russia has the Kremlin in an uproar.
Trains are moving every which way.

[&:]Curiously, the Moscow Gulag was the most active place in the city.[&:]
Word is that instead of a life in far dread eastern Siberia outside Vladivostok, those who speak the smallest degree of Japanese are highly sought. Much talk of a trip over the Mongol deserts and mountains is being heard. Support of the Russian government to these lucky gulag converts is more than assured.[8|]

[X(][X(][X(]
Could it be true.
Could our troops finally have HEROES?
Word is that Manchurian children are eagerly awaiting their new teachers who will provide them with proper knowlege of Russian customs, language and greatness.
[X(][X(][X(][X(][X(]

The news just keeps massing. Signing off for lack of breath. Must get some sleep-
but i am so excited. hope i CAN sleep. Must sleep. must sle[>:]

Russian turn 6 is a disaster.
The only hope is that the G run out of supply [&o]
Otherwise...

Not much to talk about.
Those dumb TAC of Russia not only failed in their mission....they lost an airplane!
How you lose an airplane on the steppe is a mystery and being pursued diligently by the NKVD! Heads will roll. It sounds like a lot of heads...as initial reports identify a lot of ducking.

The Allies continue to do research.

There was much surprise across the Pacific when ships lumbered into Port. The general consensus was "false" alarm.

Turn 7 Russia...Fall 41?
The R tanks have arrived and supplies are plentiful.
Some exchange combats occurred with the Germans...and Japs.
Noted that G captured factories/resources remain un repaired.
The Allied hvy bomber campaign may NOT be necessary...so more
resources can go into land combat units.

The Med appears to be an Allied Lake.

China appears stable.

Some 30+ resources on Allied Research this turn!

It has been over a week with no reply.
Last email from Mario...was that he was losing interest
in this particular game.

I conclude he seen the writing on the wall and did not
wish to stay around to have it written.

I suggest that the game is over with an overwhelming Allied win
due to loss of morale by the Axis powers.

Crash and I(Mike B) have been having difficulties with timing lately.
My last send to him was June 7. I am unaware of a reply.

We had been very quick about exchanges. I sent a followup yesterday
asking why i had not yet heard from him.

will send him the June 7 turn again.
It is good that the forum at least works. :)
