HQ range effects

Post by FlyingElvis »

Reading the manual, on pg. 46 (8.4 Involuntary Changes of Orders) it talks about the effectiveness of orders depending on HQ proximity. I'm a little unclear on how close I need to keep my HQ units to the frontlines. I have been keeping them far in the rear. A short cut key similar to "L" (LOS) would be nice to show the effective range of HQ communications. I'm not even sure why this would be an issue on the modern battlefield however.

FlyingElvis,

I believe in 102 there is a menu option to show command range if you right click a HQ unit. As for need, there is still jamming, decoy radio traffic, and more important just LOS to your subordinate units. It is tough to adjust the battle plan if you can't see what is going on or you are just piecing radio chatter together.

Capn, thanks for the reply. What you say makes sense after giving it some thought. Something I should have done before posting. [;)]

Just to precise, I quote the manual p70 (and yes, command radius is available in option menu when clicking right on a HQ unit):

18.1 COMMAND RADIUS
Command Radius is the distance from an HQ unit to its subordinate unit(s) that indicates
effective command, control, and communication. Outside of this radius, line unit cohesion suffers
as does their reaction time and supply status.
The Command Radius is 12 km for regiments and brigades, 4 km for battalions. Units must be
within range of its immediately superior HQ to receive emergency resupply.

"and more important just LOS to your subordinate units. "

Is this in the manual? We should keep los between HE and subordinates? I just thought it was a 4km radius?

Cheers, Chris
