First of all let me say that I'm a matrixgames customer who has tried the new PW and WiR games, and purchased WitP. Until now I was a VERY happy customer.
Yesterday I purchased Reach for the Stars. Demo seemed allright, tried a couple of turns and was very happy with what I saw. However now, 24 hours later I'm not that happy anymore.
Thing is: game locks ALL THE TIME. Some times I can play 30 turns for a row without problems, others in three turns the crash happens. No matter what I do (tried everything, desinstaling/reinstalling, and even trying different drivers for graphics, sound, etc), the same happens all the time.
Strange enough they aren't total locks. I mean, I hit some button or select a space fleet or maybe a single spaceship...maybe when pointing the cursor to a destination for a selected space fleet, maybe getting into tech screen, or production screen...cursor turns into the little planet&satellite and remains that way forever no matter what I do. Only way out is ctrl-alt-del, and closing the game from task manager. If I don't do it the computer can keep on "loading" whatever it's loading for 3 hours in a row (not talking bull$hit here, did the test this afternoon. Game locked and went on to see F1 qualifications on TV. 195 minutes later it still was with the little planet and the stinkin' satellite turning round and round, but the game won't go on)
For what I see in this forum seems I'm not the only one with this kind of trouble. I see a lot of calls for help and very little solutions posted. I'm frankly surprised (and in a really bad way) that matrixgames has launched a game with such stability troubles after seeing how impressive was the stability of much more complex games as WitP. I'm a bit extreme when deciding who do I give my money. So far Matrixgames never failed me in customer support and that's why I decided to buy this game in the first instance...maybe I should have taken a look at the forums first to see if the game was stable, but then again one expects a release to be reasonably stable...
I still keep the faith: Let's hope you people at Matrix don't let me down this time and that if there is something in my laptop causing this problem to me, it has a fix. This way the game is all but unplayable for me and I really don't like giving up my $$$ for nothing.
