TBM-3d torpedo bomber

Post by Sardaukar »

Is that plane actually useful in for example night time Naval attacks, or is it just another Avenger ?? Is the radar any use for torpedo bomber in this game ??

Any insight about usefulness of radar in airplanes in this game ?? Anyone ?? Even generally..does it help Night Fighters at least ??

Night fighters should be more effective if the radar is present in the base (got this answer from mods). So, following this logic, i would say, that plane should be useful for night naval attacks...

i know, did not answer your question[:D]

Hey, how about some tests?

Hey, how about some tests?

I just got that late in my first Campaign against IJ AI [:D]. It was started under 1.4..and lot of *very* strange things have happened. I've lost all trust to games that are started under previous patches to draw any conclusion...esp when half of my Allied troops seem to be commanded by Japanese !! [X(] [:'(]

Might try to make a test scen for this..but I think enemy Tfs need to be spotted by other units during night to Night Naval Attack to occur. I've never seen one so far. I think it needs +75 exp too...and my attrition rate has been such that few air units have that high exp !! Something like 11 000 missions flown vs. IJ 1700 per day [:)]..with 10 to 20+ ops losses per day in August 1944.

Cheers,

M.S.

DOes the -3d even have an airborne radar? I looked at it in 1.5 and I didn't notice it having a radar set.

If I remember rightly the book "The Big E", about the Enterprise in WWII, there was something about Avengers doing night bombing. They also used the Avenger for night fighter intercepts, to guide the fighter to the target when the fighter didn't have radar. That's how Butch O'Hara bought the farm, an Avenger gunner got him.

Aircraft radars don't show when one clicks on "Aircraft data" on Squadron menu. It can be seen either by editor or accessing the aircraft database via icon in up row on screen.
