The A-bomb on Nagasaki: censored reports come to light 60 years later

Post by Resisti »

A serie of articles written by an american journalist, first to visit Nagasaki landscape, and censored by Mc Arthur, found by journalist's son and published on a Japanese newspaper:

That is very interesting reading.

It's fascinating reading, especially because on day one Weller is echoing the official line about radiation danger and by the next day he is touring hospitals and getting his eyes opened! It's no surprise that his dispatches got censored, they put a totally different face on the bomb and its effects on people.

Everyone should read this.

Wow, this newspaper article is incredible. Whether or not we should have used the A bomb can be debated forever but it's totally different when you are actually there making desicions affecting the lives of millions of people. I once had to take a superviser position at work for 7 months and I would have done anything to get out of that job. Imagine being responsible for a World war for the last part of 1941, all of 1942,43,44, and half of 1945. I bet those guys were ready to do whatever it took to end that war. I'm not saying we should have or not use the bomb but it was a different time back then.
