Help a new player

Post by ilovestrategy »

Sorry guys, I'm a total noob at this. I tried as the western allies to take over Vichy Africa but it's still politically frozen and it is now 1943. any suggestions? Also, what porportion of supplies to fighting units do i need? I still can't figure out how to make an amphibius assault, i'm gonna hit my manual again tonight. Any help on these issues would be greatly appreciated [:)]

see whether i can help.

Q1
Vichy Africa + Vichy france remains frozen thro' out the game unless:
1) attack by Allies (that also makes the army under germans direct control); or
2) the fall of W + E germany (where all Axis region surrender to Allies).

Q2 - dont know whether u mean attack or defence?
for attack, 1 supply per unit (move + attack, except units that use extend movement during the turn, in such case, depends on what exactly the unit is, up to a total of 5 supplies is needed for a BB to move >1 regions);
for defence 1 supply per region.

Q3
u need transports w/ sufficient "amphibius assault" capacity, ie, the figure on the right hand side of transport. u need 5 for each infantry and 10 for each armor. for all powers except IJN, each transport has a AA value of 3 (IJN got 5). that means u need at least 2 transports to launch an infantry amphibius assault, and 4 transports for either 2 infantry or 1 armor.

hope that helps!

Yeah, moving big ships can get complicated & expensive!
There are a couple of threads on Amphibious Assault, take a look at those for the complete explaination.

Oh it's gonna be a while before I whoop the computer, it wasn't till 1943 before I got a handle on things. It's 1945 now and i'v only now gotten the Germans and Japanese on the ropes. only, my 2nd day at playing though. I tried Hearts of iron II, that game is intimidating.

I played HOI2 as Germans and it is a great game for the details. But the AI is very weak and all the political situations (like liberation, the programming of US reactions, etc) are just not there. If they keep patching it, it may someday get there.

But right now I feel GGWAW is a much tighter design.

EEEK! It's a good thing I wasn't in charge of the U.S. during the real war or else we would still be fighting in 1947!!!!!!! I have just now gotten to where the japanese are pushed back to their mainland. I'm probably the worst general ever in control! [:D] But I do love this game, it's gonna stay on my hard drive for a long time.
