The luckiest man alive!!!
Some of you may rember my previous thread 'I lost in 4 days'.
In a match against Praetor he ended in the middle of my invasion TF, after that he seriously damaged 3 carriers I had sent to cover the invasion.
Due to the criticism of the forum I decided to keep playing and the following two days he sank the damaged carriers and offered to restart. Which we did.
Now get this.
I decide to go for a vanilla first turn, nothing bold, very easy. PH strike by the book.
Less landing than historically, I say to myself: "this time I'm going to last till the end".
The only things I changed for the PH strike were a few hexes for the KB destination and the Zero on 100ft airfield attack switched to CAP. What could go wrong this way? Slow and safe .... right!!!
I find his TWO carriers in the hex beside mine [X(] All my TB and DB are either on port or airfield attack. All his are on naval attack ......
Kaga and Akagi won't make it back even if he does not pursue, Soryu on fire, floading and sys damage 50+, Hiryu and Shokaku on fire, floading and with sys damage 20-30.
He'll probably dispose of them in the next turn.
I don't know what Praetor will tell me, I know you'll attack me for loosing heart. Me, I just cannot believe it!!!!! [:(] [:(] [:(]

Lucky, huh? Praetor sounds like a sly dog [8D] High risks sometimes have high rewards, No CAP on TF? Problem with game system as commander would recognize and alter plans to risk.
I don't like scenario 15 for the reason everyone knows starting positions prior to main attacks, I prefer 16 so that the already surprise attacks are already just that surprised with historical results to start.

How could he beet your cap? His two carriers are not that strong. But my feelings are with you [:o][;)]

greetings...
you don't have to worry about critism in "lost in 4 days" thread. I wonder how many other people would post such dishonorable ([:D]) defeat.
And for new game:
1. where you put your KB - east of PH, or NW of the PH?
2. This was on turn 1?

RE: The luckiest man alive!!!
I can top that.
I started a UV game a long time ago with a friend of mine....he was trying to be clever in his opening moves as Japan and had sent Shok, Zuik and Shoho towards PM with the intent of delivering a suprise night attack.
Might have worked.....except my own carriers were in the area....and since his bombers were all set to night ops....I got in two full strikes in without being retaliated on.
Three crippled and possibly sinking carriers later, a restart was agreed on because the game had just started. dang funny it was......well from my viewpoint at least as Allies [:D]

1. Just NNE of PH, a couple of hexes away.
2. Yes, very first turn.

Tell your opponent he must be the World's Greatest General Of All Time. Does he do signed autographs? I'll finally be able to take down my huge Hitler poster, and put his up on the wall.
Is Sharkosaurus rex the biggest fish in the sea?
Why don't you come in for a swim?

I love this game, but yes IRL the commanders would have probably switched targets on their own. Plus they would have known they were sailing side by side to two NUCLEAR CARRIERS with JET figthers!!!!! [:@]

You might want to agree on a house rule for the first turn - Allied player gives no orders outside of China, Japanese player doesn't aim for the known location of the US CVs. After Turn 1, everything goes.

I did not change the standard CAP setting (as fas as I remember), hence I had 40 Zero on CAP.
54 SDB and several TB passed the CAP. I mean 70+ DB and TB are enough to wipe my KB away.

I'm not hunting the CVs anyway.
And we have the rule in place for everywhere but India, Chiana and West Coast.
He did not move the carriers there (I think), they started there!

Hello,
I was faced with Operation Infield. I had the carriers north of PH. So I just sent them to a common hex.
No other orders, no new TF , only land movements in China.
It was funny to see the result. I could have lost you know...[:D]
Restart it is. [:D]
I will have to keep my beasts away, let him get a few easy kills..

certainly, but i wouldn't recommend it if the Japan player leaves his carrier planes set to naval attack/airfield(or port) attack.
6 vs 2.
not good odds.

Hello,
And he could have attacked someplace else, or set naval atack as first priority for some groups, or be out of range of his carriers, or have held a sizable CAP.
And I could just as easily lost 2 of the precious Us carriers. So there is nothing smelly..

i'm pretty stupid today, can you clarify this - you and your opponent agreed and started with this option, uh forget how it is called (Operation Infield, Outfield)?
if the answer is yes, than all is clear and mc learned in hard way that Japan player shouldn't be too greedy[:D][;)]

Hello,
I had to look in the manual to understand what happened to my carriers and to their location.
Quote:
"Operation Infield: If this random opening occurs, Kimmel forms a surface fleet which he keeps at Pearl Harbor and brings both Carrier TF close to home port. ..... This usually produces a fierce carrier battle on turn one near Pearl Harbor."
End Quote
So I took a gamble..
It could have been Operation Home Plate....
