2005 Stanley Cup, Canucks(Capt Ed) vs Predators(Mark VII)

Post by Mark VII »

Ed lives in Vancouver and I am just outside of Nashville and have a 1/4 stake in season tickets. Since the big boys did not want to play hockey this year, Ed and I will get it on as he(the Allies) will try to trip up my(Japanese) plans to free the Pacific of the yoke of Western Colonialism as I will be high-sticking and boarding the Allies on my way establishing the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. Banzai!!! Asia for the Japanese...errr...I mean Asia for Asians!!!

We are playing PRY's #16 with two-day turns. Sub doctrine in ON for both sides, and so is FOW, Allied DC, advanced weather, and user defined a/c upgrades. The Japanese have agreed to make no invasions unless under cover of fighters(land or CV based) that are in range and flying a % of CAP.

Also we have agreed to do nothing in China till April 1, 1942 to give a more realistic treatment to that theatre since nothing happened for years there anyway. By April the Chinese should be dug in one more level and their readyness levels should be higher, the Japanese will pay a higher price to take cities. just an experiment. we will see how it goes.

Ed will also be adding to this so no big secrets will be given away.

The puck is dropped[:D][:D][:D]
*************************************

My early plan is to continue the landings that have been started off Malaya, but there will also be immediate landings at Kuching, Miri, Lingayen(major), Laoag, Davao, Legaspi, Cagayan and a following TF with Jolo on its mind waiting for the Davao escort to finish its first mission. I have a concern about Force Z and Ed has a history of committing it to defend the shores of Malaya(something about maintaining the honor of the RN, tradition and other foolishness???) but I am hoping he learned his lesson last game when my subs and Saigon a/c squashed those silly thoughts before Force Z could even reach Khota Bharu. So my thought was to escort the Kuching TF with the Kongo & Haruna TF and leave the Khota Bharu forces under the protection of the Mogami's class TF and the Saigon Naval air. As you will see, Ed believes in a forward defense and not running away. Guess where Force Z shows up?

Remember the combat results are two days worth and there is alot happening at first. They have been trimmed somewhat including bombing altitudes and ground bombardments removed. ***Let me know if this is to much***

Since my best players are in Europe I will have to make do with some players from the farm team. The early departure of the POW was probably for the best as it would appear she was a little puck shy. However the performance of the Repulse was worthy of the best enforcers in the league I`m thinking MVP material. On a more serious note Gen MacArthur has vowed never to surrender the Phillipines.

So Ed surprizes me with the sortie of Force Z and he sinks Mogami and damages another CA. Alittle distressing that there was no warning and that several subs and the Saigon airforce failed to spot them during their transit to the party. The whole of Z can be lost and Ed will still be ahead of real life....As you saw, POW was in big trouble trying to get back to Singapore, will she make it?

On Dec 8, KB was ordered to retire from PH area to Kwaj. at mission speed. For the Dec 10 turn KB was sent(full speed) to just South of PH to see what we might catch. I'm thinking maybe some kind of TF trying to get a head start to the S Pacific, maybe some CA's and DD's in a surface TF or maybe a transport TF running some land units south. Surprize...surprize....surprize.

MacArthur's PT boats get slaughtered but cause damage before their end.

On a more serious note Gen MacArthur has vowed never to surrender the Phillipines.

Good, will Doug stay around and personally direct the defenses? If so, maybe that means that a PT boat won't be overloaded with refridgerators and General Homma can get a cold beer when he sets up HQ in MacArthurs palatial Penthouse apartment at the top of the Manila Hotel.

You know we also chased you with the Enterpise CVBG past Johnston Island after the Lex went down I`m thinking we might have sent 1 or 2 of your CV`s to the bottom if we could have got the Enterprise out, the 2 day turn saved you I think. Also we did manage to salvage a couple of SBD`s So now I just have to put a new CV under them.

Yes, to bad you could'nt of gotten Big E out to play also. only lost 3-5 a/c during the Lex encounter. Only Soryu's flight deck closed down, rest would of been happy to take on Enterprise.

The Battle of Johnson Island went well. For the loss of 10 a/c, took out Lex and her airgroup and put a big hurting on two CA's. The two 1000lb'ers did little to Hiryu but yes, Soryu will be out for 3-5 months from the secondary explosion and fire. Funny thing happened as KB was departing for next mission, four old USN DD's came out of PH chasing KB, well, shark bait I guess.

True to Ed's desire to mount a forward defense in the DEI, the American Asiatic Fleet was committed to an attempt to disrupt my landings in the Davao area. There first encounter did sink a small 4 ship AK TF but after that they became more shark food. Not positive, but I don't think a single one got back to an allied port.

First wave of landings still underway.

RE: 2005 Stanley Cup, Canucks(Capt Ed) vs Predators(Mark VII)

Post by Mark VII »

Wake 1st try(4xPBY on the ground), Legaspi, Jolo, Menado, Cagayan, Kuantan(6xHudson, 6xBlenheimI on the ground), Dadjangas, and Kavieng(Zero base for Rabaul op) all fall. Landing at Singkawang. 1st phase landings almost complete!

The warmonger Churchill has ordered an invasion of Thailand! There are 5xCommonwealth brigades at Songkhio. The invaders must be removed.

Zero's, Nate's, Ann's and Sally's now based at Laoag supporting operations on Luzon. I believe in taking the airfields on Luzon along with the resource hexes to pound MacArthur and to deny free supply to his forces. Once we have pushed the Philippine Army back to the Clark, Bataan and Manila area, a decision will be made to continue with the assault or to stop and just bomb them into the stone age and have their supply sucked up trying to fix things. And then attack at a later date to clear the Allies off Luzon.

Davao being built up to major forward supply port, support ships along with 50,000+fuel and 50,000+supply only two days away. Zero's and Nells now at the airfield.

After 8 days of war(not counting historical Dec 7 losses) the Allies have lost Lexington, POW, Houston, Danae, Marblehead, 18xDD's, 1xMSW and 6xPT's. The IJN has lost Mogami, 1xDD, 1xSS, 1xMSW, 1xPG and 2 AP's. The IJN also has 6xDD's with 20-53 damage but they will all survive.

Post by Mark VII »

2 somewhat slow days. Mostly more supply and fuel being unloaded at newly captured forward bases. Recon a/c notice 31xP40B over Mersing, assumed to be AVG. Many enemy ships sited off Rangoon, knowing Ed, I assume he is reinforcing Rangoon. If so, the more pow's to help build RR bridges in Thailand and Burma.

I have moved half a brigade into San Marcelino and MacArthur immediately attacks with the 21st PAxx and 31st PAxx with heavy loss to the Philippinoes.

Canton Island op starts next turn with everyone in the same hex, airfield strikes to be launched from 240 miles. The invasion force has been sighted so Ed should be expecting this.

Have Kuantan airfield intact with many bombers, supply shortage will limit ops to fighters LR-Caping Mersing invasion force. Mersing invasion force(1xsurface TF, 3xtransport TF's and a ASW TF will close in from holding position 180 miles East of Mersing.

144 Inf Reg begins to unload at Rabaul.

My strategy of defending to the last man and contesting every advance is paying off.
We have dented many many ships of all types, these will require resources to repair. Its kind of like the Japanese idea of not killing the enemy just wound him a wounded soldier or ship takes resources a dead one or sunk ship cost nothing. Also by losing so many bases to the Japanese Empire he will run out of supply feeding them sooner, and then I will have him where I want him. [:D]

I have lost the AAR for the 12-20 turn. The most important event during the 20-21st was the landing of a inf brigade and the 25th Army HQ along with LtGen Yamashita at Mersing. Recon has told me that there is only on unit defending probably the BF. The Aussies have retreated before combat fearing Japanese steel. There will be major reinforcements arriving in the next day on follow up convoys that will allow me to march into Singapore within the next week or two.

The B-17 raids the last couple of days on Camranh Bay have originated from San Marcino. Combined Fleet has ordered the bombers at Laoag to hit the airfield and fleet units based at Formosa will begin near round the clock shore bombardments in an effort to knock out those long range raiders while they are on the ground. Three were lost over the first two days.

And an unfortunate highlight of the forward defense of Luzon, enemy P40E's shot down 15 Nate's over Manila(for only 5 P40's lost) when the planned Zero sweep failed to show up. My Zero sweeps have been very disappointing and I seem to get better results when Zero's are escorting some kind of raid and enemy fighters attempt to intercept.

In further news, the defenders of Rabaul hold against the first attack by the just arrived South Seas Detachment. Hong Kong also holds while Cotabato is cleared with the Philippine units retreating in the direction of Dadjongas where they are now trapped in the jungle between two Japanese bases.

Big turn!

Seeing that all of the north Malaya Commonwealth infantry is in Songkhia, I assume that the one unit in Alor Star(continueous air recon) is only a BF. So since Ed moved into Songkhia, 1st Para has been planning to jump into Alor Star and cut off his infantry. Some SNF's are on standby to airtransport in once the airfield is secure to help hold the base. The operation is supported 2xOscar, 1xAnn, 1xLily, 4xSally and 1xBetty Sentai. During the week before many of these units have been pounding the airfield in an effort to be damaging the BF and to eat supply as the BF attempts to repair the field. On jump day all of these units hit the BF in ground attacks with the intent of adding disruption. 48 transports will provide the lift.

At the same time, the just landed 23rd Mixed Brigade will attack Mersing. The 2xsurface TF's and 3xtransport TF's off shore at Mersing will attract major elements of the Malayan Airforce this turn. A sentai each of Oscars and Zero's will LR-cap from Kuantan the invasion force and the Allied airforce is going to pay a stiff price. I think after these two days the Vildebeest menace will no longer be a problem.

Canton Island is invaded by the Maizuru 2nd SNLF and the 52nd Naval Guard Unit. The battle lasts maybe 4 hours!

The Dutch Navy finally shows up and causes some damage.

The Action continues.

Even though all of the ground airstikes are hitting, the Alor Star op is not going as planned. More of the 1st Para drop in but the 5 level fort is not helping matters and the attack is(has) bogging down. Maybe I should of waited a couple of more days and also brought in 2nd Para. Silly me, I guess if there is any resistance, paratroopers can't do it on their own!

Allied attempts to disrupt the reinforcement of Mersing continue, but all fail to hit a single ship. Another 20 RAF and RAAF a/c(including 7xBlenheimIF's) fail to return to their bases. The airforce defending Malaya should be about done!

The AVG has shown up in Rangoon covering the apparent troop convoys that have also arrived. I wonder what they brought for me to trap?

Slow progress at Hong Kong continues but the delays at Rabaul are becoming troublesome. Tojo is becoming very unhappy and orders reinforcements sent from Truk.

Wake and Canton Islands are both a mess from the combat. Each have over 150 combined damage but engineers are present trying to get things working.

RE: 12-26 thru 12-27-41

Post by Mark VII »

EDIT: OUR GAME HAS BEEN ON HOLD FOR THREE WEEKS AS WE TRIED TO FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE 18thXX THAT VANISHED ATTEMPTING TO MOVE FROM MERSING TOO JOHOR BAHRU DURING THE JAN3-4 TURN. AFTER SENDING THE TURN AND OTHER TURNS TO THE HELP DESK IT WAS DETERMINED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. FRAG SUGGESTED THAT WE GO BACK A TURN TO BEFORE THE 18th VANISHED AND RESTART. THAT DID NOT WORK. THROUGH TESTING AND NOT MOVING UNITS WE FOUND WE HAD TO GO BACK TO THE TURN WHERE I ORDERED THE OTHER UNITS TO FOLLOW THE 18th(THIS TURN!)AND RESTART HERE AND I ORDERED THESE UNITS IN MERSING TO DO NOTHING.

HENCE THIS TURN AND SEVERAL OF THE NEXT ONES WILL BE REPLAYS AND THERE WERE SOMEWHAT DIFFERENT RESULTS......

The Mersing landing op is mostly over. The 18thXX, 2xTK rgt's, 2xEng rgt's, some arty and over 20,000 supply have been landed and are holding for two days to recover some and to prevent any from vanishing. The airfield has been repaired and the 77th Sentai(OscarIb's) along with a Chutai of Dinah's now call it home. Penny packets of Allied a/c keep trying to get at the transport fleet but non get through the CAP curtain with another 14-15 Allied a/c being shot down. Air recon is showing three units defending Johore Bahru with two of those units believed to be the Aussie Brigades.

The Allies continue to land troops at Rangoon and we continue to try and stop them. The good is that AVG lost 13xP40B's, the bad is that I lost 13xZero's, 3xVal's and a Betty with only 3xAK's hit. Though only 8xBetty's get 4xhits, thats some determined pilots! Not sure if I can maintain operations against Rangoon with these losses?

The High Command back in Tokyo is becoming very upset with the pace at Rabaul. Once again the defenders have stopped the invasion forces cold.

The Dutch launch a major air raid on Singkawang. Not sure what they were going after since they did not hit anything. However, 4xBrewsters and 6 Martin139's are splashed. Wonder how long the ABDA can maintain a 27% loss rate?

Hong Kong falls I think only one day past the historical time. The good news is that the facilities are undamaged, there is alot of fuel and supply captured and the ShipYard is in great shape.

REPLAY OF TURN!

Operation KI leaves port and is on its way.

The Rabaul operation has stalled, Togo is very unhappy and has ordered Yamamoto to do something, NOW. The cover CA force has been ordered to continue bombarding even if the base is somewhat damaged. It must be secured ASAP! Yamamoto has also ordered reinforcements sent from nearby forces to help in the attack. Two NLF's are on their way. These next two days will only see bombardments as the troops try to rest some as they wait for the reinforcements.

At Alor Star, not counting the multiple daily air attacks on the defenders, things are quiet on the ground. 1st Para has been ordered to move to the defensive and supply is being dropped to the troops. So far there has been no counterattacks but the the rear area Indians are just too dug in to force them off the base.

Air Search reports massive amounts of Allied transports are unloading troops and heavy equipment at Rangoon. Both the AVG and our forces have been hurt over the last couple of days, losses have become not favorable and air ops against Rangoon have been temporarly suspended. The more troops Ed lands in Rangoon means the more that will join the ranks of our POW work gangs as they build some RR's and RR bridges for the greater glory of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere! So aside from damaging or sinking some Allied AK's, why bother with them?

For several days have had 3-4 ASW TF's hunting the gangster subs now lurking North of Luzon. Many contacts but finally a kill. Unfortunately, one of my subs on peacefull picket duty in the Pearl Harbor/West Coast gap stops sending status reports.

LAST REDO TURN

As the invasion force makes its way to Kendari, it is attacked over and over by many Dutch and Aussie a/c. 7xT.IVa, 4xCW21B, a Martin139 and 3 Hudsons are splashed by CAP of MINI-KB. Mini KB looses 4xZero's and 6xKate's during CAP and airstrikes on Dutch fleet. Kates begin the destruction of the Dutch Royal Navy. Java goes KaBOOoom.

Another turn of bombardment only at Rabaul. As Ed said, the defenders have all earned a case of Fosters, each!
