leader abilities/statistics

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Do the leader statistics tend to change over the course of the game? Perhaps to mirror Napoleon's decreased capacity towards 1815? Arditi

They may change from scenario to scenario. We lower Napoleon's stats in the 1815 scenario, I believe. But they don't change within one scenario.

Poor Nappy. Is he the only one singled out for attribute change?

Some of the other commander attributes change too, I believe.

Of more concern is that leaders DIE - I have recently been targetting untis with senior French generals for special attention, and my current record is killing 3 in a single battle! (Lannes, Murat and Ney) I don't think I will better that record, but I might try!

However, new leaders arise - both as reinforcements coming into the game, and they can be generated as a result of battles where over 15,000 men die.

I think the newer threshold is lower...only 5,000 maybe.

I am concerned w/ how likely commanders are to die in battles, as I don't think those commanders generated randomly easily measure up to many respectable historical leaders, with some of Napoleon's Marshalate topping the list. Your witnessing of the three marshals passing away in a single battle led me to doubt if you didn't shield them enough but rather ordered them to run into the enemy's rain of volleys only w/ their bared hands. :p

Thats definitely true. In my latest game it is 1808 and I (Prussia) have just finished crushing France with the allies after helping France against Austria at the very start. Lots of big battles. Lots of me trying to kill generals (its my 'thing' at the moment.) So far, NO generals have died at all. So that 3-in-one-battle was very unusual.

That said, I have played France and lost Napoleon in 1807 - once in 20 or so games. As Austria, I have managed to lose Charles. I haven't managed (despite recklessness) to lose Wellington though - and I play Britain the most.
