Can you explain why a US CV doesn't get a single one of it's fighters off the deck with a CAP level of 60% and fully available aircraft and pilots?

There is no reason for this to happen. If you have a save or combat replay I would post it in the bug report forum. AFAIK you're the first person to report this problem. [8D]

Sure... maybe in the morning... but by the sounds of it I'll just get a response of 'it's just bad luck'

21 Wildcats, available pilots 21, experience 77, CAP level 60%, Yorktown had taken a minor torp hit earlier but no significant damage.

Weather Clear, no other air ops flown

CAP facing enemy attack zilch.

Once again, AFAIK it's never happened to anyone else. I certainly haven't seen it. Please send the save/combat replay. I'm just as curious as you are as to what happened.

You said the Yorktown took a torp...what was the flotation damage? System damage?
If they both add up to >50 then no air ops...

The only other thing I can think of is that you mistakenly left your fighters on Sweep or Training......I've accidentally done that too many times to count....

Fighters should fly CAP no matter what the weather...

FTJ

Either
a. you are provoking this community
b. you are desperate to understand tha game mechanics

Case A. Stop whining and get back to Flat top.
Case B. What Juggalo said : If system+floatation both add up to >50 then no air ops or you have given them other mission. But it is also possible that you pushed the button too many times and the CAP is at 100%, which is automatically LRCAP (ie no CAP in the hex of the CV) strange but is is so. Another option is found at the bottom of page (48 continuing) of the manual, but is too long to quote.

Regards (in case b.)

Ursa MAjor,

b)

It's always been b)

But others seek to deride and mock rather than assist.

Juggalo:

Woohoo! At last some information... thanks dude... far better an answer than... "was just bad luck"

OK...Yorktown has Sys Dam of 23 and Flt Dam of 33.... for a total of 55.... hence no air ops... it sucks balls, but at least we understand it now.

Now the manual says "planes on a ship may not fly if the ship’s combined system damage and floatation damaged are greater than 50%."

So, does anyone know what determines that 'may' bit.

BTW, something big in red on the ship status panel saying 'NO AIR OPS' would've been sweet. [8D]

Once again thanks Juggalo, all we're looking for is explanation so we can go "So that's why that happened".

Hey, no problem...[8D]

I'm guessin' that should be changed from 'may' to 'will'....

By the way, flotation damage is easily repaired in a large port....system damage not so much....
You're on the borderline on whether to send her back to Pearl or not...

Sometimes it is useful not to tell the local heavies, that their mother is as ugly as she can be, before asking them to help you.

BTW at least scrolling through the manual before playing helps a lot. [;)]
