Pacific War DOS Update Out Soon

Post by Mike Wood »

Hello...

Before we start our new War in the Pacific game, we will be releasing a limited patch for PacWar. It will include some bug fixes and a few new features. It will still be a DOS program, using 640x480x4 bit color depth and it will have no new art.

We would liked to have improved the art and added sound, but that was not possible. That is why we are writing our own grand strategy Pacific campaign game.

I have already done most of the programming on this and as soon as I add a couple more changes, we will be posting it. The download will around 2 mega-bytes.

We are hoping to post the patch within a week, or so. We hope it will tide you over, while we write the new game.

Thanks...

Could you PLEASE be more specific about
What bug fixes and new features you are
referring to? AI tweek? What?
By the way, many thanks for your efforts.

What is going on with the new Pacific War
game? Is the staff still so consumed with SPWAW that you haven't had any time to work
on the new Pacific game? What has Grigsby
done so far? Come on man, don't leave us
hangin and danglin!!!!
My e-troops don't unload OVER THE BEACH anymore, see:
Amphibious Assault at Kota Bharu
TF 85 troops securing a beachhead at Kota Bharu, 51,75
whew! I still feel better.

I am actually wondering if this will be compatible with old OBC files? I have created MANY modified versions of the OBC files, and, it would be a shame if they weren't compatible. However, if they aren't, is the game still editable by PacEdit?

Whatever changes the Patch offers will undoubtedly be explained with the file when we download it. It would be nice to have an update on the new Pacific War Game though :-)

Thank you for your efforts! It's a shame the update didn't happen, but the thought and the work involved in the patch are much appreciated.

Hello...

Yup.

We are working on it right now. We have also been working on SPWaW.

We have two very talented artist working with us, now. They are working only on the DOS PacWar update. We have all new aircraft sprites and will soon have all new ship sprites. We have spruced up the map, as best one can with 16 colors. We have darkened the land masses and added a fractal pattern that breaks up the solid color. We have also added mountain ranges to the map. We feel the map is greatly improved. We also have improved fleet icons and have changed the base flags.

Thus far, we have reprogrammed the routines that set the sea paths. They have been removed. Any naval unit may now move into any ocean hex on the map. The player may now assign any hex as a fleet destination and not just a base. Since the sea paths have been removed, the routes that ships take are more direct and predictable. Submarines must now be moved more often as the computer opponent will route around known sub hexes. The computer opponent has been programmed to take advantage of the change in sea paths.

We have also fixed the bugs that cause escorts from LA to end up in India and the one that takes ships from bases and transfers them to LA and India during the routine convoy phase.

We are currently programming the new secure PBEM system with a VCR function. It will prevent cheating.

It will still be several weeks, due to delays, before we can release the patch. The current release date, don't quote me on this, is August 7th or there abouts.

Be patient...

Are the FTP server issues with SPWaW going to impact the PacWar patch?
