Riddle me this Riddle me that...

Post by YankeeAirRat »

I had the Lexington Damaged turning back the initial Japanese carrier strike against Port Moresbry. So some of her strike a portion of VB-2, VS-2, and VF-3 landed at Port Moresbry. After having them sit there for about 2 turns, I then moved the to Charter Towers to wait until I could repair the Lady Lex at Noumea enough so that she could conduct flight ops. That took about another 5 turns. After steaming Lex into range I try to fly the portion of VB-2 on to the Lex when I had the following happen. They turned into a squadron that didn't want to rejoin mother and became a non-entity. Now this phantom unit has taken up all the deck space on the carrier, so I can't bring the rest in and even after a couple of turns it just won't disappear. Am I up a creek with out a paddle and have to restart or is there a way out of this short of sending Lex home hoping that will fix it?

I am playing with version 2.41.

Oh I really, really don't want to restart since I got really lucky with both bombs and a couple of subs since I got both the Zuki and Soho with dive bombers to heavy damage and a couple of submarines forming a picket line between Lae and Bouginville were able to put a couple of torps into them as they retreated. Hi [:)]

Hmmm.... this is a bit of a sticky problem.

AFAIK, there are problems with patch version 2.41 (this is currently being addressed). It is best to stay with version 2.30 for now.

How much damage does the Lex still have?

As to your current situation I would suggest heading for Noumea and disband the Lex CV TF in port. But don't send it PH. Keep it at Noumea. Then try to send the planes to the base of Noumea.

If this doesn't work, wait a couple turns to see if the issue resolves itself.

Best of luck.

The Lexington has about 35 points of general damage, there is no more flooding or fires, since I had disbanded her TF while. What I am trying to see now is since the planes are in Brisbane sending the Lex there and try to onload from the dock. If not it sounds like I will have to restart and try to see if the luck dice roll my way agian

Hello YAR , This prob. seems to crop up when you transfer an airgroup fragment back to the parent unit on a carrier . How to best avoid the prob is to transfer the parent airgroup to the same base as the fragment and have them merge there before you move them back onto the carrier . If the a/c carrier is at the same base as the joined airgroup you can them transfer them back onto the the ship that same turn . F4f's and sbd's can be tranferred back on leaving the ship in port but you'll have to form the carrier into a tf to tranfer the tbf's back on . If the carrier is at sea or a different port you will have to wait until the next turn to tranfer the airgroup back on . If you are stuck with that phantom airgroup onboard i agree that taking all the planes off and waiting a turn is the thing to do . When you try and move the phantom unit off you will have to pick " select on map " as i don't believe you will be given you a list of bases to choose from . If you see this situation cropping up again the thing to do is save the game and then start moving planes around to see what works and what doesn't . Try it - fragment from base to the parent unit on a carrier will usually result in that phantom unit . Parent unit to base , merged with fragment and then tranferred back to the carrier doesn't . Hope this helps and more importantly - works - ... HMcS

No need to restart. I ahd the same problem with the CVE Long Island in a recent game. Essentially I had 2 Marine squadrons in Australia. I disbanded one into the other, so the 1 F4F squad left had 24 planes + 9 in reserve. I waited a few turns but the reserve planes did not go away. So I loaded the sqaud onto the Long Island, but only 24 planes went, the remaining 9 (and 1 pilot) stayed behind. So next turn I flew the 9 onto the Long Island (don't ask me how they fit, but they did)... at time the 2 portions of the sqaudron merged, but I was left with a ghost element. When I unloaded the LI at Noumea, the ghost sqaudron remained on board, the the rest of the sqaudron unloaded. A few turns later and the ghost squadron was still there.
So I disbanded the LI into port and let it sit for a bit. Now (about 2 weeks latter) I checked the LI and there is no ghost squad. [:)]

Thanks Veer. I will have to look at trying that one this weekend. Been kind of busy with real life to work play in the past couple of days.

The A20 bug has been with the game since day one. No need to restart. Just fiddle around a bit. I forget how but it will go away.

I got it fixed now. Thanks for all the helps folks. I sailed the Lex with a small force of DD's over (don't want to see her popped by a IJN Sub now) over to Brisbaned and docked. The minute that happened all the related forces rejoined and the phantom unit disappeared back to the Phantom zone.
