For Goblin--when we're talking about Iwo Jima & Okinawa, this was indeed true, BUT only as long as you had the "wrecking crew" ground-pounder Marines accompanying them. Yes, many Shermans did get knocked out by the heavier Japanese ATGs, but the majority of those that were disabled were towed off, repaired, and returned to the battle. Just like Bruce Willis in "Die Hard", they got knocked down, but they got up again and refused to be counted out until they either triumphed or went down permanently.
