Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

I won't quibble over ratings but where is Hoche is 1796? How can you have an Irish Campaign without Hoche and Wolfe Tone who if he gets to Ireland should raise the Militia.

Why don't the leaders have reliability factors? For example Moreau is as reliable as Davout or even Bernadotte (which brings up the question as to how he becomes King of Spain?) What about leaders being bribed as in the case of Brunswick for the battle of Valmy?

What about Naval Leaders?

And Big Question....Why can't leaders be killed?

page 51 of the Manual

"Every attack that causes at least 25 casualties has a chance of killing an attached commander equal to 1/3rd the amount of damage from the attack, divided by the current strength of the unit. The presence of a commander attached to a unit is shown by a flag drawn on the unit’s icon."

I have played all weekend on the auto resolution and have yet to see a leader killed in spite of the fact that the army is destroyed...the leader runs around on his own.

i don't really know if they can die in auto battle (never played a large battle in that way), but i think that it may happen..
you have to consider that the death of a general was not so common, i remeber only Lannes and Desaix, and some austrian..
in Detailed combat i have killed Bernadotte [:'(]

This is probably a bug. In detailed combat, leaders can be killed and I have seen it happen.

I agree that it does not seem to ever happen in quick combat.

I at one point had the austrian 4 star general come over to my side as he stupidly came into one of my territoies.. it might be a bug but he's there and happens to be my best general...

Was it Charles? I saw this exact same thing in one of my games.

They do die in detailed combat (I can't speak for auto-combat).

In my first game, with my tactical advisor set to 'on' I lost two leaders in a single battle.

So they do die, though I can't speak for the frequency as, like us all here (except the beta folks of course!), I'm only just starting to scratch the surface of this title.

They do die. I succeeded in getting Murat killed in my tutorial battle before I realized the units with flags were the ones with leaders. I just kept attacking with the great cavalry unit because it seemed to be doing well, until the enemy surrounded and destroyed it. No more Murat.

I've actually never seen a leader killed in detailed or auto (quick) combat. I suspect it is quite rare in detailed combat and won't speculate whether it is possible or not in quick combat. Another thing discussed in the manual is the potential for new leaders to be created during a large battle. I have also never seen that happen.

Charles will be captured if he wanders into French territory (small chance each round). But when captured he should be surrendered -- gets Fr flag, can be moved by the French, can even be attached to French armies if that's what you want to do with your surrendered generals, but he should not fight for the French. Please let me know if this is happening as that would be a genuine bug. Last time I explicitly tested for this, however, I could not get surrendered commanders to fight for me.

Leaders are only killable in detailed combat. Early testers found leaders dying in Quick Combat to be frustrating, so we took it out.

I did have the Piedmont General fighting as a French General...I then left him unattended and one of the roving British Cav units picked him up and He then finished the game as British General.

Also if you put prisoners in a garrisoned city why does moving troops into the region "free" them?

I had Brunswick Surrender and become a French General, I just added him to the Stack and keep on going

detail combat can be bloody, I seen 3 enemy Generals die in one fight

also, lost Wellington in a Cav Charge vs a routed Cav unit !!!

I lost Grouchy, had Jourdan captured and killed Charles all in successive turns in one detailed battle.

I think that removing the possibilty that leaders can be killed in quick combat is a good idea. [:)]
