invalid instruction message

Post by Drex »

I loaded the revised PacWar but when I try to run it I get an illegal operation/invalid instruction message with fault location 0000:0297. Can anyone help me?

Yep, I'm getting that message, too. The intro screens run fine, but the game proper is interrupted by an illegal operation message. Each time the fault location is different, though. The last one was 00C0:FF1F. BTW, I've never had this occur when running WiR.

ya, my fault location changes also. Hope some one can help soon. I'm itching to play this game again. It's been years and I had a slow machine at the time. Now I got some power and look what happens.

I downloaded the thing and it seems to run fine. I can load up a mission and everything. You say this error occurs when you are loading up the game? Maybe it has something to do with your computer setup?

I am running a Pentium 500, Windows 95.

Maybe you need to allocate expanded/extended memory manually? I had to do this to get the original PW to run in a DOS box under Win98. I can't see why it would cause an exception, but it might be worth a try.

Hello...

Although this is explained in the what's new file that comes with the game, I am posting every where I go, PacWar has the same problem that Wir has. It requires a lot of DOS low memory, 634k, to be exact. So, if any one complains the program will not run on their system, tell them this.

If running in Windows '95 or Windows '98, remark out the autoexc.bat and config.sys files. It will then run ok. If running from a pure DOS environment, configure the autoexec.bat and config.sys files so that 634k is available. This can be determined by running mem.exe, which will report current memory available. The DOS user may need to get QEMM, to make this much low memory available.

Thanks...
