You must be hiding some serious losses here. This was before Force Z'a revenge, wasn't it?

Since Treespider hasn't posted an update, Force Z sallied to intercept several task forces gatherered around Kuching and sailing past Singkwang (which he captured in a daring raid by some fast destroyer transports). Force Z found the Baby KB and severely mauled it (although one cruiser was heavily damaged in the process). I didn't get a report of any sinkings but one of his CVE's took multiple hits along with a CVL and a couple BB's and CA'S. Later that day the same tf found a transport tf and made short work of it. The next day the remainder of Force Z mauled another transport tf while PT-Boats out of Pontianack contributed to the carnage. A Brwester squadron from Singapore also found his crippled CVE and put a bomb into her for good measure.

In other nbad news for the IJN one American Sub off the east coast of the Philippines, torpedoed one AO and sunk an AP. Another Dutch sub in the Sulu Sea also torpedoed an AK.

All in all a good day for the Allied Navies!

This was one little disaster after another created by indecision on my part earlier in the game.

The transport TF departed Formosa carrying a BF and I couldn't decide if I wanted to risk running it to Singkawang or to play it safe and head to Kuching. When they departed Formosa I set them to go to Kuching. A third of the way down I changed my mind (Problem #1) and decided to cover the TF with Baby KB. I set Baby KB to follow (Problem#2) and send it to Singkawang. However I never reset the destination so the TF went to Kuching and unloaded most of the unit it was carrying before I was able to divert it to Singkawang. Fortunately most of the transports had already discharged the units they were bringing in Kuching, unfortunately they didn't go where I wanted them. Because of Problem 2 Baby KB and the transports were all having tea in Singkawang harbor the day Force Z arrived.

Well before any of this occurred, I had set the Baby KB's bombers to ASW with a range of 1 (Problem#3, the big one) on the run over from Palau to Saigon. Before the Singkawang escapade I switched back to Naval Attack but forgot to increase the range. This probably part of the reason Force Z went undetected. When Force Z arrived my TF commander valiantly sacrificed CL Nagara and several destroyers to save the CV's. However Baby KB wasn't able to launch a counterstrike as a rainstorm engulfed Singkawang harbor. The next day I quickly shuffled my forces but still overlooked the range settings on the bombers. When they didn't launch for a second day, I looked deeper and discovered my gaf.

Thankfully this wasn't KB! I had gotten some of the victory disease and was just merrily running through my turns. Now thanks to this bloody nose I'll be more careful.

Yes it was a nasty day for the IJ Navy ....but the Sun will Rise tomorrow.

Here are the current losses...

I am at work so I don't have any access to screen shots but the Boise will probably end up being a casualty to the combat. It is slowly chugging its way back to port with 79 Float damage but with the fires put out. Most of your other hits did do damage to those ships although not any serious float damage. But enough to make most of Force Z retire for reapirs. I only regret I couldn't get the Prince of Wales in on the action but I wanted a fast tf to dash in before you were are so I formed a tf with only the Repulse and some CA's and CL's and DD's for support. The PoW was in a separate tf at sea but as a covering force to take some heat off of the retiring and damaged tf after the fight.

Like most Allied efforts in the beginning of the war it's effect on the overall strategic situation is minor, I don't have the forces to follow up on the success and gain a more effective control of the Java Sea but it sure is a morale booster! And it will slow down your operations which will pay dividends in the future. Now I just have to make sure I don't get the remainder of my capital ships trapped in the DEI and destroyed by you bringing the KB into the SRA to teach my impertinent naval commanders a lesson!
