Mouse Drivers

Post by Marauder »

Everything works fine, except for the mouse. The pointer moves, but I can't pick anything. Do I need to have DOS mouse drivers installed?

Hello...

That would depend. Are you running in DOS or Windows? If Windows, no, just double click pac.exe and Windows will provide a mouse for you. If in DOS, yes, you will need a mouse driver.

Good Luck...

Hello...

The requirements haven't changed with the patch. The needs a lot of low memory. When I first started running an early version of Windows 95, I had to buy QEMM and run the optimize function, to get enough memory to run the game. When I upgraded to Windows 98, I found that the operating system gave me plenty of memory and I did not need anything in the autoexec.bat or config.sys files to run PacWar or any DOS game I own.

You should open a DOS window and type mem.exe and then hit ENTER. This will tell you you how much memory you get in a DOS window. If it displays less than 605k of conventional memory, you will have to optimize your DOS environment to run the program.

Also, if you have an ealy version of Windows 95, you may need to install a mouse driver in the autoexec.bat, which will reduce available conventional memory. You will still have to optimize by telling DOS to use high memory and install the high memory drive EMM386.

The easiest way to make the program run, is to upgrade your operating system to Windows ME. This may not be practical for you, however.

Good Luck...

I run a Celeron 600 with 128MB and an MS Explorer Mouse (Driver German Version). When I try to create a TF I get to the choose menue Port or TF. There I cannot click on the icons. The computer sends me back on the map and creates an empty TF. Selecting by pressing the right key on the keyboard works fine.

win95 osr2 here, you need a mouse driver if you startup in Ms-Dos mode.

However it's not necessary to, I have run Pacwar via a Dos-box, as they say, run explorer and double click on pac.exe or better yet, find pac.exe and "create a shortcut on desktop"

In a windows Dos-box no need load a dos mouse driver.

Noise? What Noise? It's sooooo quiet and Peaceful!
