Production Help

Post by Sigurd »

I have just been given this World at War by my son because I loved Axis and Allies. I have started scenario one as German at least a half dozen times and each time I set myself up as human control for production. It just doesn't work. When I go to the production screen there are no numbers in the three boxes and already units queued. I even tried completely reloading. The only that came close was starting with computer control and manual production. That worked until I changed the settings. Again I could not control production. In one case I went though about 10 turns with manual production on. Eventually both production and supply stopped. When I set computer controlled production on, I again started to recieve units. My biggest production runs came from repaired units - not the best way to play.
Bottom line is I frustrated and considering other options but since it was a gift I at least want to make it work.

PS: One of my favourite games was Russian Campaign. Even had it mounted on magnets at one time.

Thanks in advance.

Are you aware that there are 2 seperate phases, one for movement and one for production that comes after it? The numbers only appear during production, not during movement (which is annoying because you would like a prediction of your production options and manpower at that point)

You played several turns like that? Hummm.
You might re-check the game settings to make sure you have human production & not the default. You can check them during the turn without leaving the game in progress. Otherwise what dembe said is most likely the culpret.
I loved TRC, I picked up a later game called Russian Front (I think) which had tons of innovations, but alas! No opponents.

What!?! you don't like wading through the lists and adding up the totals before you click on to the next phase... [;)]

Yeah, I wonder why it is that the production advisor can never be found during the movement phase. Its funny, you would think a nation would KNOW how much production capability it has, AT ALL TIMES. Not just during the production phase.

The reason is that some of those values are updating constantly during the movement phase and others don't. We originally displayed numbers but found they were more confusing then they were worth during movement. Plus, some values can change when you end the movement phase as you enter the production phase. For these reasons we decided it was better not to show any numbers until you make it to the production phase. Ideally items that could change during the turn would update on the fly, but we weren't set up to do this and by the time we decided we'd like it, it was going to be too much work to change the code.

between the region info and production summary screen you can figure out the info. Helps avoid those little surprises like expecting to place x number of units only to discover your population pool is not cooperating :-/

Or if bombing that enemy resource will make a difference or not.

Sigurd, I am a HUGE A & A fan myself.

I got the game for the same reason, and love it.

It's tough at first, but after doing the tutorial, then playing the AI against China for a game, then Japan, then Russia, then Germany... I've figured alot out.

It is well worth the learning curve!

Good luck!

...and read up here on the forums. Better than the manual in many respects.

Thanks to everyone. I knew it had to be simple - do production in second phase. Worked like charm and the AXIS gave up. Next time I will have supply on.

There is an old saying - good users are hard to find.
