Eagle and Furious
I've been trying to find the stats of the Eagle and Furious (I plan to include them in a scenario) but have failed for the most part. I especially can't find any data on their respective armour values and AAA armaments on 12/41.. anybody have any sources?
Thanks in advance. [8D]

RE: Eagle and Furious
You can try here at www.hazegray.org.
Though some of thier information can be contridictory it is a place to start. Under the heading Naval History it leads to different classes of ships and then there a listing for various countries that have operated those classes of ships.
Another source is the book Aircraft Carriers of the World, 1914 to the Present: An Illustrated Encyclopedia
by Roger Chesneau. It should be at your local library or you can order it online from amazon.com They have a listing of all the American and British carriers up to 1982 and most the major changes that occured to them over thier life span.

Take my word for it. You never want to be involved in an “International Incident”.
RE: Eagle and Furious
Thanks Don - that's the site I've been using! A lot of useful stuff there, but the armor values aren't listed, and I'm uncertain about the armament - I'm wondering if it's the original armament (upon CV conversion), the armament at the beginning of WW2, or later. I will probably use it anyways if nothing else presents itself.
YAR: I think I'll go by the library and check out that book. It sounds like what I need. [:)]
The link sounds good, as well. Will definitely take a look...
Thanks to you both for the quick response.

WHOOPS - that link is to the OLD copy of the book. You want the new one if you can find it.
Published US Naval Institute 1998, ISBN 1-85367-277-1
GULP: The new one!
Here's the armour data from the OLD book:
Eagle: Main Belt 4-6-7in, deck 1-1.25-4in, Shields 1 in
Furious: Main belt 2in(Fwd), 3in (Amid), deck 1-1.5-3 in
Quite a difference in data!
I purchased the NEW book for about the current price of the OLD book ($100) and the OLD book a long time ago for something in the $10-12 range. They must be getting rare!
RE: Eagle and Furious
That's amazingly expensive. [X(] Maybe in a few years, when I have $400 just sitting around with nothing to do... lol. They definitely must be getting rare!
I have Eagle and Furious in-game now (sans icons). Yay!

I think I may do that. [:)] My attempts have been pretty terrible.

Fortunately there are two copies in the library system here in Anchorage. Would hate to have to buy it. Ditto for British Cruisers of WWII by dame authors.
RE: Eagle and Furious
what scenario is this planned to be?
Wasnt the Furious made into worm bait over 18months before WW2 started
Wasnt the Furious made into worm bait over 18months before WW2 started
RE: Eagle and Furious
Nope, Furious lasted through the war and was scrapped by 1954. [:)] Eagle was sunk in the Med by a U-boat on 11 August, 1942.
The scenario is going to be one based off the idea that the British have kicked the Italians out of North Africa in '40 and sunk the Regia Marina, which forces Mussolini to resign and the Italians to an armistice. This allows Churchill to send significant reinforcements to Malaya and Singapore... Eagle, Furious, Ark Royal, Barham, Valiant and others are present at Singapore, and the ground troops have been reinforced significantly and complacency has been mostly eliminated (thanks to their new commander, Slim.)
The other major change is to the Japanese, who have essentially a completely different fleet, based on the idea that an influential Japanese Navy Minister takes office in 1930 and from then forwards guides doctrine and ship design away from the "decisive battle" idea. No Zeroes with rayguns or super-Yamatos or anything. I've tried to keep it believeable, new ships have been swapped for real ones, not plucked out of thin air.
I've also thrown in the proposed Dutch 1914 BCs for good measure, and the Eendracht CLs that were under construction in 1940. [8D]
The Allies are basically done - I just need pics for Furious and Eagle, and then it's on to the Japanese fleet, which is the biggest task. Then I just need to test and balance it for a while.

RE: Eagle and Furious
sounds interesting...I like variants and what if's....are you going to get Spooky to host it?
RE: Eagle and Furious
I hope so - I don't have any webspace myself. Probably Spooky will. [:)]
The whole scenario is basically those three "what ifs" thrown together in (I think) the most fun way possible. Should be very interesting. [:)]
Captain Cruft and I plan to play a test AAR of the game when a "1.0" version is close to finished.

RE: Eagle and Furious
That's pretty good Cobra. There are some scaling issues though, Eagle was 667ft long whereas Furious was 786 o/a. Kinda have them backwards a little bit.
Still, my Furious icon is some 20 years too old for WitP [:D]

Thanks again much Cobra, those are perfect.
Scaling issues or not, I'm no artist, so I'll take what I can get. [;)]

Wasn't Furious AA set up 6 twin 4" Mk XVI? ... 2 on each side, 1 on quarterdeck and 1 forward
