Occupation Armies

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Occupation Armies

Post by Basilhare »

Im playing against the AI as Austrians in a 1796 game.....forced the French to sue for peace...afterwards two of my armies became frozen on French Soil. I can not move them and one of them is suffering attrition each turn due to not having a depot.

Are these mandatory occupation armies or did they become trapped behind French lines with no rights of passage?

Perhaps this is a game bug?

It seems funny that two of my armies with about 10 divisions are now trapped in France, when I won the war....Subsequently, I won a war against the Turks but did not have any armies become "trapped" within Turkish borders....

Enjoying the game, though...very interesting game....Basilhare.

Did you try right clicking on the territory and choosing the "violate neutrality" option? I'm starting to think this should simply pop up as a question when trying to move units out of or into neutral territory.

He shouldn't have to "violate neutrality" to get his army home. (Didn't you ever play EiA?). This game still needs a lot of work!

No, I hadnt tried this.....that did fix the problem and the troops have now returned home...I noticed that the map graphics changed over France, once I made this choice....are their negative consequences to "Violating Neutrality?" It would seem that I should have the option to bring the troops home after the war, without Violating Neutrality....thanks...basilhare

Violating territory lowers the attitude with the nation whose territory you are violating. If you are not in turns of enforced peace then a trespassing unit provokes a <casus belli> -- they can declare war on you without losing any glory.

The engine is automatically supposed to turn on violating territory if your troops end up in enemy territory in any way: I've seen this work, but maybe this isn't working in every situation.

Not only is this true, but the game seems to work this way ... sometimes. For example, in one PBEM game I forced Austria to surrender, and all my French units were moved to the closest French province, except for one corps which stayed in Linz. Then, during the next turn, I could not move it and was forced to "Violate Neutrality" to get it to move at all.

Why does this happen? Why would some units not be moved and some would? Is there a condition that a corps could have that would render it immobile post-surrender? Or is it just a bug?

This has also happened to me where Austrian units have been stuck in my territory post-surrender - usually in a protectorate.
