Possible WindowsNT Fix

Post by Blackhorse »

Well, I finally got v2.0 to run on WinNT.

I have 635K of memory in DOS High, and I can't move it to low because the system won't allow me to access the autoexec.bat or config.sys files.

I still can not start the program from the icon, or from the .exe file. (It freezes on a black/blank screen after the credits). However, the program runs normally (so far!) if I start it from the DOS prompt.

Interestingly, my computer could not identify the default path --
C:/Matrixgames/ Pacific War The Matrix Project -- set up with the game. I changed the path to C:/Matrixgames/Pac and it runs fine when I type "Pac".

Hope this helps my fellow Pacwarriors!

Now, what do to now that the California is my only battlewagon afloat after the infamous attack on Pearl? -- assign Victor "Pug" Henry to command! (alert readers of 'The Winds of War' will understand this reference.)

Hi Blackhorse
How did you get that dos prompt open to start the game then? I've tried to rightclick the pif file and assign a copy of the config and autoexec which can be modified with the notepad. Unfortunately i don't remember the correct commands for these files.
anyone got pacwar working on win2000 and have a possibility to mail me a copy of your config and autoexec? Would be really grateful for help! (daniel.arnberg@spray.se)

Send my regards to Pug by the way... and Byron as well if you meet him!

Aragorn,
From the 'Start' menu, I selected 'run.' That opens a window that says "Type in a program, folder, or document and windows will find it for you." I type in "cmd" (it's the default on my system) and that brings up the DOS screen.

[Who would've thought it could be so hard to find a DOS prompt?]

Once you're there, "C:" of course brings up the C prompt, then use the "cd" command to set the right path. "Pac" runs the program.

I hope this helps!

P.S. Pug says hello. He's p.o.ed about the damage to the California -- he's taking command of the CA Northampton, just to get back to sea. Last we heard, Byron was in Portugal, trying to get his family out. . .
