Chinese infantry waiting for oncoming assault... September 1942 about to start...

Post by aztez »

Good points Sardaukar... I have already moved 2 US RCT units to India by paying PP, also 1 US Cavalry unit will soon appear in Karachi.. oh, and as you suggested I have now send 2 Coastal Fortress to India In order to bolster the defenses there. will actually dispatch those British CV's back to the Pacific. I guess there is no point of having 2 mediocre CV fleet since by combining them I would have 1 strong CV Fleet. This reorganization will be done and hopefully I can catch him off guard with this operation... as you stated only problem is the British Withdrawal rule... better keep my fingers crossed because of that.

Game date is 27th of August 1942

China

My AVG fighters sweep Hanoi airfield but are not able to inflict much damage to the enemy... because of that Kumming is bombed hard again. Otherwise queit but the final assault will start soon.. there are now 20 Japanese units stacked in the South... and he already has strong forces concentrated in the North. Oh, I wish I could have more supplies in this huge country.

Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 75

Central Pacific

CV Wasp managed to dock at Pearl Harbour... she had 96 sys damage and 90 flooding damage... so she might sink at the docks! Anyway, that CV is out of the battle for year at least or that would be my estimate.

Otherwise not much to report... I have send some units down to South Pacific towards Nandi and Suva.

Burma & India

Akyab is bombed hard as usual but otherwise nothing happening. I have been thinking about using RN as bombardment force but this is too risky as he has substantial ac's in Rangoon and Mandalay. These threats have to be dealt with first.

As stated above RN will meet at Bombay tomorrow and CV ships are given orders to sail to Pacific to meet up with US CV's.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Akyab , at 30,29

Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 22

South Pacific & Australia

Luganville and Koepang targeted again by the allied bombers. He has withdrawn all of his ac's from these bases... just some ground units are stationed there.. well, that is the way I do like things to stay.

There are now troops moving towards Suva & Nandi bases... these units are ordered to build up the place and make them substantial air bases which future operation can be launched. Also, Suva, Nandi and Noumea can support each other in defensive purposes.

Game date is 29th of August 1942

Quiet turn overall... still waiting for the Japanese offensive to start in China.

Central Pacific

Bad news travels fast as they say... CV Wasp was sunk in Pearl Harbour. Those brave allied firemen were unable to salvage the ship. This means my US fleet is down to 3 CV's which gives us a severe handicap in numbers.

Some IJN ships were sighted near Wake Island... I have no clue what their intensions were or are.

South Pacific & Australia

Luganville airfield remains shutdown... some Japanese ships were reported near that IJN base but those ships disappeared into the horizon.

Koepang were hit again and again... also 1 Japanese infantry unit were bombed in Lauterm.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Luganville , at 72,107

Allied aircraft

Hudson I x 29
B-25C Mitchell x 14

Runway hits 30

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Yokosuka 3rd SNLF, at 33,78

Allied aircraft
Brewster 339D x 6
B-26B Marauder x 53

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
63 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Burma & India

I have issued orders to Beuafort screws to stop bombing Akyab. These squadrons are now moved back to inland to their designated bases and they are set on naval attack.

British CV's along with BC Repulse, BB Valiant, BB Prince of Wales and BB Warspite along with some escorting DD's have sailed from India. They will make a long journey and will join up the US Pacific fleet. This will bolster my defenses substantially in Central and South Pacific.

Otherwise it has been quiet... no troop movement or aircraft assaults were reported in Burma. My British bombers will start to make supply runs to China and Myithkina.. hopefully these supplies will help those troops to prepare for the Japanese assault.

China

As stated British bombers and Dakota crews are hauling in supplies to Kweiyang and Chungking.. I do not whether these flights help much but it is better than do nothing.

Kumming was heavily bombed again... and I have moved my Spitfires and AVG squadron to Kweiyang... they will serve there as fighter defense.

I have also issued an order to those troops in Northern China to withdraw to Chungking.. Their are in dire need of supplies and will have a chance to replenish themselves as well as rest before the hordes of IJN infantry start their advance.

In this stage your best defense against KB are B-17E units set on Naval Attack at 10 000 ft. And with punishing possible Bombardment TFs some PT boats in base and few subs around will help.

Japanese final offensive in China begins... Kweiyang is the initial target...

Post by aztez »

Game date 10th of September 1942

Thanks for the advice Sardaukar... I will reinforce my bases down in the South and Central Pacific with bombers. That should make him think twice before doing anything dramatic.

Here is the situation report:

Still no sign of KB or any other major Japanese navy vessels... but they must be still stationed somewhere near Truk.

China

Japanese offensive has now started... 1 Tank division and 1 Tank regiment arrived in Kweiyang... both of these units were repelled away. Those units arrived earlier then rest of his troops... he has actually 21 units moving towards Kweiyang and last turn 2 more units arrived.. and again I have ordered deliberate attack to throw these units away.

This is the start of the final assault againts China... I have 170 000 troops in Kweiyang and 200 000 troops stationed in Chungking. So far no movement has been made towards Chungking but I believe this will also be imminent target.

Otherwise he has been pounding Kumming with his airforce just as before.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Kweiyang

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 194262 troops, 1443 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 16067 troops, 85 guns, 759 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 26 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
583 casualties reported
Guns lost 16
Vehicles lost 9

Allied ground losses:
1282 casualties reported
Guns lost 33

Burma & India

Quiet... I have kept hitting Akyab with my airforce. As stated I have moved my Beuaforts to defensive positions in order to keep them safely inland... they will pose a major asset againts any Japanese naval invasions.

My bombers have still been hauling supplies to China. They are not able to any dramatic supply runs but every bit of supplies they bring will help.

Japanese airforce did launch an assault againt supply convoy that arrived in Chandpur. Seems that these planes flew from Rangoon. These invaders received quite a beating.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on TF, near Chandpur at 30,25

Japanese aircraft
G4M1 Betty x 25

Allied aircraft
Brewster 339D x 5
Buffalo I x 4
Hurricane II x 3
Spitfire Vb x 2
P-40E Warhawk x 13

Japanese aircraft losses
G4M1 Betty: 20 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Brewster 339D: 1 damaged
Hurricane II: 1 damaged
Spitfire Vb: 1 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 2 damaged

Allied Ships
AK Empire Flamingo
AK Empire Morn, Torpedo hits 1, on fire

Central Pacific

Defensive positions are being established and supplies shifted. No major offensive plans are being prepared at the moment.

The British CV's are moving towards this are but are still far away... (Just reaching the coast of Australia).

No Japanese activity in this operational area.

South Pacific, NZ & Australia

Fist units have now arrived at Suva... they immediately started preparations of fortifying and expanding the airfields at Fiji.

More units are just a couple of days away so this operation is going smoothly.

I have rested my bombers for couple of days... but now I will continue my airfield assaults againts Luganville since he has moved some aircraft to that base again. I want to keep Luganville shutdown.

My bombers in Northern Australia have kept hitting the Timor island. Last turn I spotted 5 Japanese AK's heading towards Koepang so I have set my B17's on Naval attack in this turn.

Also the Japanese ground troops in Lauterm have recieved a beating from my Marauders... these troops have been bombed daily.

North Pacific

Very quiet indeed... just some supply runs are made and defenses are being build.

Good thing about B-17s is that as 4-engine bombers they are immune to need of escort. 2-engine ones and torpedo bombers don't fly without sufficient fighter escort..and that can be difficult to achieve against number of CAP that KB can have. And B-17s are very durable, so they can survive fighters. So even when you may suffer heavy casualties against KB, they only need to get few hits to shut down flight operations of an IJN carrier.

Isnt flying with/without escort a measure of the planes durability rather than engine amounts ? I have no idea what the threshold is however.

Looks like things are settling down a bit for you Aztez .. about time [:D]

I think china is a lost cause here but making him pay is worth the effort.

consolodating the south Pacific is also well worth the effort , might as well use the big 64 plane b26's b25's a20's etc. If you can afford the supplies using them for supply transpost in a quiet area will seriously boost thier experience . It might be abit gamey but i bet most people do it :)

Its a good way of training brit wellingtons , hauling supply to china , ive got several bombers upto 70+ exp doing this , op losses can be hard though.

anyway .. as always good luck , and how is it looking for a 4-1 jap win ?

Heavy fighting break in Kweiyang...

Post by aztez »

Game date is 12th of September 1942

Thanks for the comments guys... well I actually hope that the KB does not show up at the moment so that I will have sufficient time to organize my defenses in Central and South Pacific.

Hmmm... actually I don't know how the fighter escort thing is calculated.

Actually, things are not settling down at all... I wish they were but he has committed such a force to China that I will have serious problems defending againts that offensive. More about that later...

That is a good tip about using my bombers as supply planes... makes sense to do so if you gain experience this way. He is using some of his Betty's as recon planes so eye for an eye.

4-1 Japanese win is not close yet... he has a bit over 22000 points and I do have around 8500 points... so the odds aren't yet there but if his Chinese campaign is a success than he will gain a lot of points.

China

This is the major and decisive operational area. The offensive againts Kweiyang continued... he tried to move several units into the city but most of them were thrown away by Chinese counter offensive.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Kweiyang

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 192984 troops, 1397 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 111707 troops, 1238 guns, 18 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 2 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
1424 casualties reported
Guns lost 48

Allied ground losses:
6635 casualties reported
Guns lost 267

As you can see lossess were heavy but much needed morale points were gained... he still has 9 units left in the city so I will give deliberate attack order once more to see if I can repulse them off. If not than I will give defensive orders to my ground units.

I'am considering bringin some additional reinforcements from Yunan to Kweiyang.. I don't actually have that many troops stationed there but I think I could bring in something like 40 000 infantry men to bolster defenses.

The supply level at Kweiyang is at 19 000 so it could be a lot better... Chunking has supplies around 34 000... so it's not good situation here.

Kumming was bombarded again by the Japanese airforce... this base is completely shutdown.

Burma & India

Quiet... just Akyab been bombed.

India will be his next target if I'am to believe my opponent... that ofcourse if and when he can conquere China.

I'am recieving additional reinforcements in couple of days but this is a such a huge country that a lot more troops are needed to defend it properly.

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

More troops are reaching and landing Suva... 1st USCM Division will land next turn and that will significantly bolster the defenses here.

Luganville was hit hard again... next turn it will be time pay a visit to Efate airfield. It seems he has stationed some ac's there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Luganville , at 72,107

Allied aircraft
PBY Catalina x 5
Hudson I x 31
B-25C Mitchell x 15
B-17E Fortress x 62

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
169 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Airbase hits 10
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 63

Also as usual... the Japanese soldiers stationed in Lauterm were hit... these guys are recieving a daily pounding from Allied bombers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Kure 6th SNLF, at 33,78

Allied aircraft
B-26B Marauder x 38

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
58 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Central & North Pacific

Quiet also... good news is that BB Nevada is repaired and ready to get back to the action.

Yeah, it may be durability, not sure. But big bombers fly without escort just fine.

Against AI I discovered that I lose *lot* of pilots using bombers for transport missions. I don't know if game penalizes using "wrong" type of plane for Supply Transport, but I think that my Dakotas etc. don't have as many ops losses. One neat trick is to have bomber/transport plane on "Supply Transport" but assigning the target as *same* base, range 0. They seem to train lot faster than when flying to different base..and with lot less op losses. One can train air unit safely that way to exp level 77 (max I achieved). It cannot be used with planes that don't have Supply Transport mission capability, though.

Supply to 'same' hex was what i was referring to ,, guess i wasn't clear about it , I'm not having many op losses with wellingtons BUT ther are flying to and from size 4 bases. Makes a huge differace, so building up the chinese to level 4 is expensive in supply but overall worth it imo.

77 is good, my best is i think 75/6 .. takes a lot of time however but using the american west coast units to train from day 1 before you have the pp to move them really helps when they finally get into combat,

It is a shame that torpodeo bombers cant do it :) .. got a unit of tIV'2 in OZ at exp 30 ! regular training over 2 months they have got to 36 ! whoopee. surely IRL 2 months of training would have better results. [:D]

Intresting ideas and thoughts guys about LBA ac's... I wasn't actually aware of these kind of tricks and things... I mean 77 experience level is quite high to achieve this way. Actually I have couple of B17's now in low 80's as they have gained experience quite nicely.

Well... last turn wasn't good at all for the allies... I did one "huge" screw up again which I'am not happy at all.

Btw Rob.. you are doing absolutely marvelous job with your PBEM.. I will send you an email concerning this soon.

China

The big mistake I made was that I ordered the deliberate attack in Kweiyang... that caused way too many casualties in infantry wise and did not achieve nothing... Japanese were able reinforce their troops before this assault got into way and resulted to ca. 9000 casualties to the Chinese infantry.. this is not good news at all allthough that casualty estimate is too high since FOW is in effect.. more disturbing this caused needless distrubtion and fatigue levels to my troops.

Only way I see how to correct this situation is to bring fresh troops in from Yunan... These units have been given their marching orders and start their journey towards frontline in Kweiyang. This city is a must hold since if I loose this one than I propably will have to abandon Chungking... this sounds crazy but if I do not react this way than he has freehand to cut those 200 000 infantry men defending the city... and that is not an option... since I rather retreat in good order than annihilate the whole Chinese army.

As you can see next few days are going to be critical here... it is intresting ot see what kind of damage his first wave of assaults will cause.

Here is the combat report from that unfortunate error I made

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Kweiyang

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 185296 troops, 1200 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 151346 troops, 1537 guns, 35 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 0 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
1087 casualties reported
Guns lost 30
Vehicles lost 1

Allied ground losses:
9017 casualties reported
Guns lost 274

Also he has now nearly 200 Sallys bombing the crap out of Kumming airfield... look at the damage level these ac's will cause

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Kunming , at 39,33

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 36

Burma & India

Nothing happening... Akyab bombed daily with moderate damage being inflicted by Blenheim's aircrafts.

I will recieve two new units next turn... 1 US Cavalry unit and 1 US Engineering unit... these units were dispatched couple of months ago from San Francisco.

Australia, NZ and South Pacific

The unfortunate garrison troops in Lauterm were hit hard twice again... I kind of all most feel sorry for these guys but than again payback is what they do deserve..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Efate airfield was hit twice too... pretty nice results allthough it seems that there are no Japanese ac's stationed in this base.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Efate , at 73,109

Allied aircraft
Hudson I x 29
B-25C Mitchell x 12

1st USCM division has now landed in Suva... also first allied LBA bombers have arrived to the base. Within next two turns I will receive additional reinforcements in Fiji so this build up is coming along quite nicely.

Actually I would love to capture the Efate and Luganville bases but I'am pretty hesitant to do so since KB and Japanese BB's are propably lurking nearby and I can't affort to do anymore disastrous invasions.

British CV fleet are now in Australian waters and continue their long journey towards the US CV's.

Central Pacific & North Pacific

More troops are on their way from San Francisco... otherwise very quite times around Central and North Pacific.

Its a pretty short hop from Noumea to Efate .. give it a whirl with as many transports as you can get to maximise the off loading times. If you want to 'test' wheter KB is around send an old BB with a couple of destroyers to bombard. worst come to the worst you lose an old BB .. but if he dosnt react you have probably got a long enough 'window' to get some troops across ..

Thank you for your comments on my AAR and PBEM .. always nice to hear praise , fingers crossed it will continue ..

as always .. good luck

p.s .. yeah i agree completely with your assesment of china .. DO not lose Yunan or your trapped. and yes it is worth abandoning Chungking if you nave to.

If you keep the chinese army in being , even if china falls you can come back [:D]

Game date is 16th of September 1942

Good point... It is a short hop to Efate but than again risky at the moment... My BB's are stationed in Pearl Harbour and are waiting for their October ship upgrades so I do not have any of the old BB's stationed in the South. Also, I'am recieving mixed information about the strengths of Japanese army stationed in both Efate and Luganville.

Luganville at least seems to have garrison around 15,000 men strong and Efate around 10,000 men there. So, It would take a lot of infantry to conquer these places... also I don't know whether these bases are Atolls and if so than I will not attack before these bases are bombarded to the dust.

...and I'am still concerned about the KB and Japanese BB's... since even if I conquer these bases that would mean that I'am vulnerable to counter attacks by the IJN. These troops must be taken from Noumea, Suva or from Australia and by this game date the troops levels aren't that significant.

Yeah.. I do not want loose Yunan.. and if Kweiyang defences collapses that I must empty Chungking or those troops will be cut off and annihilated... and as you said I rather have Chinese infantry troops alive and ready to counterstrike back when time is right... If the situation demands an retreat than I guess I could assault Burma with these forces??? ...He has over 100 000 men in Mandalay but those troops are not enough to withstand serious assault by the Chinese.

Anyway, last turn was quiet....

Burma & India

Akyab bombed again... the good news is that I recieved 1 US Cavalry unit which is heading to Madras and 1 US Engineer unit which is heading towards Bangalore.

South Pacific, NZ & Australia

The build up in Fiji continues in schedule... more troops arriving daily and this will soon cause Japanese HQ problems down in the South.

Efate was bombed... but I'am now concentrating my airpower to hit Luganville again next turn... He did send fast transport TF there to either bring in supplies or additional troops. In my estimate Luganville poses much more serious threat.

Lautem was hit again too... heavy Japanese ground casualties were reported.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Kure 6th SNLF, at 33,78

Allied aircraft
B-26B Marauder x 47
B-17E Fortress x 57

B-17E Fortress x 28

Japanese ground losses:
198 casualties reported

China

Both sides resting and preparing for battle of Kweiyang... just the usual pounding by Japanese airforce recieved by Kumming.

I have 5 infantry units from Yunan heading towards Kweiyang... hopefully they will make it on time to make a diffrence.

As you can see a lot of ac's has been lost in recent days.

Japanese army tried to make an assault againts Kweiyang... this resulted to disaster... over 14 000 Japanese infantry men were killed or wounded... there has been no additional assault againts the city via ground.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Kweiyang

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 237428 troops, 2564 guns, 596 vehicles

Defending force 214728 troops, 1018 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 9)

Japanese ground losses:
14324 casualties reported
Guns lost 284
Vehicles lost 12

Allied ground losses:
1008 casualties reported
Guns lost 33

I also launched an offensive againts Japanese unit hex below Chungking... this operation was not a success.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at 43,33

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 52870 troops, 359 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 23811 troops, 268 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 0 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
108 casualties reported
Guns lost 9

Allied ground losses:
1435 casualties reported
Guns lost 53

I have now abandoned this assault... no need to consume troops at the moment.

What next??? Well... he seems to have started air campaign againts Kumming and Yunan too and as I stated proper steps have been taken in order to deal with this issue.

Also, he seems to try to flank my troops down in the South.. I have spotted at least 1 enemy unit moving towards either Yunan or Kumming. I have issued new orders to couple of my Chinese infantry units. He has also dispatched couple of ground units towards Chungking... so I believe this will the start of his offensive againts the city.

My opponent has stated that his new plans will become obvious in couple of turns time...

Burma & India

Not much happening... Japanese did a minor assault againts Myithkina and those troops were easily repulsed away.

Just shifting troops and fortifying the defenses around these two theatres if you don't count the training bombimg campaign againts Akyab.

North & Central Pacific

Same as above.

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

British fleet is now safely within Australian waters. My opponent stated that he has spotted some Swordfish around Australia... how on earth does he know where this RN CV fleet is since they are set to react 0!!!

Otherwise I have sunk 5 Japanese ships here... 4 AK/AP's and 1 Japanese DD... these kills were around Efate and Baker Island.

I have also been bombing Timor, Luganville and Efate areas... with some success.. these bombings will gather space once I get Nandi and Suva airbases to operational status... both of these are coming along quite nicely... and both of these are recieving additional forces to fortify these bases as I do want to make these my strongholds.

His subs probably have spotted Swordfish planes when they are flying Naval Search. Set Naval Search percentage to 0 if you don't want them to fly search..but beware that it'll reduce your spotting capability. You can compensate that by flying floatplanes from BBs and cruisers.

October 1942 begins... air campaign in China continues...

Post by aztez »

Game date is October 2nd 1942

We have now reached October and that means that allied Ship upgrades are happening in everywhere... well I have been waiting this to happen for longtime... only downside is that I only have at the moment 3 US CV's + RN Navy's CV's so still suffering a severe handicap in numbers.

Oh, you are propably 100% right with your assesment Sardaukar... he does have subs lurking in Australian waters so that is how he knows that my British CV fleet is down in the South.. I wohn't take off the naval search levels from Swordfish either since as you said downside to is that it lowers my ability to spot enemy TF's.

China

I decieded to move AVG back into China and they made their presence felt in Kweiyang. These brave allied pilots engaged the enemy heavily.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Kweiyang , at 41,35

Ki-21 Sally: 41 destroyed, 22 damaged
Ki-46-II Dinah: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses

I-153c: 1 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
43 casualties reported

Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 68

No major ground combat were launched though... he is also bombing Kumming from air and I will not tolerate this for long... as my Spitfires are rested I propably will move some of them there in order to give him a nasty suprise there too.

I do not know what he is exactly up to... he is propably trying to make somekind of a flanking movement but not sure whether he is going for Yunan or Kumming with this operation... he also might attempt to flank me via Burma and if so than this problem have to be dealt with.

South Pacific, NZ & Australia

He finally has moved some Zero's to Timor... I guess my bombing in Lautem has caused some severe damage there... this suits me fine since I have no ordered an airfield assault there instead of ground bombings. Those Zero's will be wiped out completely.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Kure 6th SNLF, at 33,78

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 11

Allied aircraft
B-17E Fortress x 49

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 2 destroyed, 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
B-17E Fortress: 1 destroyed, 9 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
67 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

I have kept bombing Luganville too.. these bombings should consume his supply levels and make it difficult to keep this base operational. Some AK's have been spotted and they are propably hauling supplies.

Couple of major fuel TF's safely reached NZ & Australia.. and that also is good news. He has stated that he has over 1000 IJN navy pilots here in... propably so but no sign of KB at the moment. Either he is going to play defensively or he is planning a major assault here.

Fiji Islands garrison and defensive perimeter is building up... soon he will feel the force of these Suva and Nandi bases.

Burma & India

Just Akyab been bombed... that is a good practise target to my Blenheims.

Otherwise... nothing... just fortifications and defenses being build... I have now decied to move an aviatiation support unit to Myithkina that will give me an operational airfield near frontline because I have a feeling that he will be flying missions from Mandalay very soon... and if not than I will pay him a visit.

Central & North Pacific

More reinforcements are on their way and fortifications are build up... and more importantly the ship upgrades are being made.

Heavy air combat action continues in China...

Post by aztez »

Game date is 4th of October 1942

Well.. well.. well.. my beloved opponent has decieded to put more air power againts Kweiyang... he did suffer heavy losses but managed to seriously damage the airfields there. I actually thinking about bringing additional fighter cover to China.. I haven't looked at the damage levels but I think AVG needs rest... so is it a good idea to bring in British Spitfires from India or not... that is the question..

Also... I did manage to hit Lautem quite hard so that pleases me... also my sub tried to attack Japanese TF that included CV Soryo... I haven't actually yet looked at where this took place but if I remember correctly this sub was positioned near Rabaul... and if this is correct information than he has KB lurking down in the South Pacific as I guessed... I will confirm this in next update.

Here are the latest combat reports:

Allies fight continues... massive air operations in China...!

Post by aztez »

Game date is 14th of October 1942

First of all the CV Soryo sightning was in South Pacific but actually it was near Tokyo... that means that he is propably upgrading his naval assets at the moment... at least some of them.

Otherwise, massive air combat is being fought in China... I think these actions will have dramatic effect on how things will turn out in the future...

China

As stated huge air combat are being fought... I have dispatched several British fighter units down there in order to supress the Japanese Airforce. If he will gain the upper hand in air than he will roll over China and can focus in other areas of the war... but this is not settled yet because he has suffered and will continue to suffer huge aircraft losses all around this theatre. Here are examples on level of air combat and you can see what kind of casualties I'am talking about...

These air combats have been raging in past 10 days... last turn he did attack Kweiyang anymore and concentrated to bombimg of Kumming. Also first strike againts Chungking was launched... I have dispatched additional airpower to China in order to deal with these assaults. Intresting days ahead in China... at least I have made him pay a price for his action..

Nothing major to report in ground combat area... just 1 assault againts Kweiyang and that was easily repulsed...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Kweiyang

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 9777 troops, 55 guns, 452 vehicles

Defending force 234963 troops, 1324 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 9)

Japanese ground losses:
645 casualties reported
Guns lost 18
Vehicles lost 7

Allied ground losses:
31 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

He has now some ground units trying to flank me and go directly towards Chengthu (2 divisions are reported here) and propably Yenen... I have send some Chinese infantry units here in order to deal with this oncoming threat!

Burma & India

Fortifications are being build as usual... also Myithkina will be operational airfield base soon and that will give an option to defend it if he chooses to attack via air.

South Pacific, NZ & Australia

Usual bombing in Timor are still happening... as well as bombing runs againts Luganville.

I also did an bombardment run againts Baker Island... I did manage to destroy few Zero's on the ground but most intresting thing was that he has 11 units stationed in this tiny island. Well, he can have it by all means this island does not serve any significant strategic value to me.

Fiji islands are soon operational and can be used as launch pads too... Nandi & Suva bases have enough troops at the moment to survive any Japanese attempts to interfere via landings or airforce.

Central & North Pacific

Ships upgrades are 99% ready and that gives me a fighting force to be reckon with.. supply convoys are reaching their targets and troops deployments are being done.

Soon I will dispatch a lot of allied subs in action... they will be concentrated in Japanese home waters.

It seems that you are killing lot of Japanese pilots. Japan cannot sustain that kind of losses, so air war may be turning to your favour.

thats a LOT of japanese army aircraft destroyed , i'm suprised at the high losses amongst his tony units. I would have upgraded my experienced units first but it looks like he's using rookie pilots. whats the kills for that spit squadron upto now ? maybe get a bunch of ace pilots there . maybe even a top ace ..

It looks like he's stalled in china and is using a LOT of supplies flying that amout of a/c at you .

p.s dont forget if your marching out of a contested hex you need to target a city/base as a destintion [;)]

things may well be turning for you ,, also the lightning isnt far of now :) [:D]

as ever good luck
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)
