Cant figure out how these dang Cossacks keep getting behind my lines!?!?

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Cossacks have a special ability to avoid combat, which is what leads to this happening. AFAIK, what you are seeing is valid and expected etc. You should see what it is doing to your economy! Yucky!

For this reason, I usually leave one inf or two militia divisions just out in the open in each province when I am fighting Russia - they beat up the cossacks. (or chase them around without wasting an army or corps counter)

I changed the economic blockade rule so that it requires some minimum level of troop strength to block a province's income now -- a single division is no longer sufficient to block income in an enemy province. I forget what the exact cutoff is, but it's something like 30K or 40K strength.

Any loose division will attempt to avoid combat each sub-phase. The base chance is 50%. The presence of enemy units blocks movement of corps/armies out of a province, but unattached divisions have a chance of moving despite the presence of enemies.

The way to deal with this is, I think, as Ralegh suggested: surround them with 1 or 2 militia in every province.

Can this be changed? Like Cossacks, irregular cavalry and Jäger getting like 75 % and normal infantry, Heavy cavalry only 25% ?

Sure. I was also thinking of allowing cavalry and lt cav a greater chance of "catching" loose divisions.

Eric:

Personally like both approaches....v arying capability of different units to avoid combat, combined with varying capability of certain unit types to pursure/catch such avoiding units.
