Alliances

Post by Gary Thomas »

I am playing Spartan (the downloaded version).

In the diplomacy screen, the middle panel gives a friendship level needed for an alliance. I have been unable to find a reference to this anywhere in the manual (or anywhere else, for that matter).

How does an alliance happen, and what are the effects, if any?

Cheers

Alliances are arranged automatically by your diplomats when the relationship is high enough. Allies will not build up troops against you and will not attack you. When someone attacks an AI's ally, the AI's relationship with the nation takes a dip & constant war can cause them to go to war too. Allies are a good way to protect your back, especially on the harder difficulty settings where the AI can overwhelm you!

Thanks. Should have been in the manual though. Perhaps it is and I missed it?

I think they were added after the manual was written. We have to lock down text for translation sometimes weeks or months before the game hits the streets, or new features are added post release. Its just not practical to update the manual every time, because layout is so time comsuming!
