A Whole Different Feeling

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

A Whole Different Feeling

Post by munited18 »

I signed up to play a PBEM the other day, and although we have yet to play our first turn, the emotions for this game our so different then just playing the AI. I am no expert on this game, but I have played and the Difficult level and done well. However, I am so stressed about what to do about my first turn vs. humans, that I am back to feeling like the very first turn after I downloaded. In other words, totally lost!
I think that it is awesome to get worked up like that and it really adds something. I have never played a PBEM before, in all my years of playing war games, and now I feel like I have totally been missing out!
Anyway, I guess I was just wondering if anyone else had felt these nervous jitters before locking horns with humans. It's awesome!

I trhink you are right that a game with all human players will be a far different animal. It actually reminds me more of the old Avalon Hill classic Diplomacy than it does the traditional CoG. Using treaties to enforce things will be especially important but still you never how how devoted people will be to their promises. And everything is fair game at the start so long standing alliances and feuds are both suspect as you first get going. One of the most valuable uses of Diplomats in building goodwill, but that is useless in an all player game so through that out the window. To make things especially fun, the game should go on long enough that people will be forced to back stab one another and transform the political environment. The issue, of course, is getting people to stay interested in the game long enough for that to happen. Good Luck! And be sure to give us updates on how things turn out and what you learn in the process.

I feel your emotions Munited...I keep thinking about what France and England will do the first turn and what I need to work on..I've not played a full regular game against the A.I. yet but can see the strategic possibilities and am also a bit anxious and strangely excited to get going.

Mogami - I am totally up for the big online games also...I will be pretty free this coming Sunday night and most nights for the forseeable future so I will be looking for those big games!
