Hi all,

A quiet day in general.

Bombardments take place at Clark Field and will continue until my troops have lowere fatigue. I'm also sending the 14th Army HQ to Clark Field to increase the co-ordination of the attack.

Supplies have been unloaded at Rabaul to my troops. Fatigue is lowering and after another day or 2 of resting and KB bombing his troops I will attack again.

5th Division and IGD will reach Malacca within the day. This will most likely be the last major obstacle before Singapore itself.

Just an update on the damaged CV's. They are halfway between Eniwetok and Saipan heading for home waters. Atago is still at 34 flotation and in the balance.

56th Brigade and an SNLF should land to help my weary troops at Amboina. A bombardment group and mini-KB and en route to provide support. Supplies also en route to provide food for my men.

Hi all,

Some minor successes today. Air attacks on bases throughout the SRA (land forces at Clark Field and near Samarinda) and on the defenders at Rabaul.

I had noticed a PT boat sailing around Manila Harbour so I set my Oscar's to sweep the place. They found the assailant and reportedly hit the thing 20 times with their machine guns. Should make him hunker down for a bit.

The other air success was a raid of Nells escorted by Zero's on a Surface combat TF sitting in Soerabaja harbour. The CL Boise was the main target but my pilots reported putting 2 fish into the old DD Alden. She was left listing heavily to port and stern.

Other than that. My boys at Rabaul are now supplied again and will attack the place again tomorrow. IGD and 5th Division reached Malacca. They will bombard tomorrow. This is good. The former defenders of Kuantan are still upto 60 miles to the east of this town and are in effect cut off unless they go across country. Unluckily for them 2 division and 2 regiments are between 15 and 45 miles from their position and are closing fast.

In Burma a little trap of mine has come off. I was moving the 55th (?) division from Tavoy to Moulmein were Werner has left defenders whilst at the same time I was racing 33rd Divsion through Rahaeng to cut the escape route for the defenders of Moulmein. This was achieved and now I have a division marching from the south (ETA 2-3 days) and the 33rd which has reached the defenders from the north.

Amboina will be reinforced in the next 2 days by troops and by supplies in 4 days. It will then be bombarded and then an attempt will be made to take the place again!

The 38th Division should land at Menado in approximately 4 days.

The Phillipines - Bombardments will occur at Clark Field. The brigade to the east of Clark Field forced the surrender of a base force. Another remains in the area. Afterwards it will march to support my forces at Clark Field. I've attached a screenie of Clark Field's combatants.

Hi all,

The Empire made some progress today on the ground. My re-supplied and rested men at Rabaul charged at the defenders again. The support from Kates bombing the defenders appeared to help as the 1st line of fortifications were taken. The attack will be continued tomorrow. Banzai!!!!

Progress was also made at Clark Field. Throughout the morning Betties, Nells, Sallies and Lillies bombed various enemy troop positions to soften up the defenders. The plan was for a full Recon attack. All units participated attacking from the Norrth West and North East. Surprisingly little resistance was met at the initial fportifications and these were stormed. Then the enemy regrouped a stalemate ensued with around about 900 casualties reported for both sides. The 1st line of fortifications was taken and held though. My men are very weary and will rest tomorrow.

Troops are disambarking at Amboina tomorrow whilst the big guns of Nagato and Mutsu pound the defenders. I have attached a screenie below of the region.

Other good news is that preparatory recon and bombardment of Malacca and Moulmein revealed apparently weak and dispirited defenders. A sustained attack will be launched by 2 division at Malacca and 1 division at Moulmein tomorrow.

Hi all,

A day mainly dominated by land combat. My men at Rabaul are peforming well. The last serious defenses were breached today and tomorrow the main bases should be taken. Supplies are already on hand and a Nell and Zero daitai will be flown in.

Forces are unloading at Amboina. Once supplies are unloaded either tomorrow or the day after we attack again. Today the big guns of 4 BB's pounded the defenders. We have announced on public channels that the defenders of boh Rabaul and Amboina will be harshly treated unless they surrender now.

The big news of the day was the storming of Malacca splitting the defence of Malaya in 2. 2 or 3 Allied brigades are still 60 miles to the east of the town whilst its defenders were pushed to the south towards Johore and Singapore. IGD and 5th Division are following the defenders south whilst my now 3 (instead of 4 units. See beam me up Scotty thread in main forum for details) approach Malacca from the east within 2 days.

The bad news. my attack at Moulmein was stopped cold by the 2 Burma brigades. They fought well and my charge did not make them flee. My division will await the 56th Division (1-2 days away from the south) and will attack again.

Now - ANOMALIES - what the hell is that bombardment at Wake all about? I have no troops there. Secondly, as mentioned in the main forum. 18th Division has warped during the past day from Kuantan to Khota Bharu. WTF?!?

Enjoy the AAR.

Hi all,

Rabaul falls (finally!) In some ways the delay has been beneficial - a lot more troops are in place to capture New Britain than would have been before (South Seas Detachment, 2 SNLF's, 4 NLF's. The defenders were pushed towards Gasmata. A force will land there and cut off the Rabaul defenders and i'll leave them to starve. Once the area has been secured forces will stay at Gasmata, Rabaul and Kavieng with the rest recouping at Truk.

Amboina is to be attacked this tomorrow after more men disembarked yesterday.

Johore Bharu was subjected to a huge air attack comprising 150 bombers escorted by 50 Oscar's. The IGD and 5th Division should reach the outskirts of Johore tomorrow after a rapid advance across uncontested country.

We had another eronious arttack at Wake. Screenshot of this posted below.

Hi all,

Amboina falls and at bloody last. Easily swamped by the mass of angry Japanese soldiers. The base was wrecked though wit port and airfield out of commission. Also 80% of the oil producing facilities were damaged. It is believed the destruction was caused by a combination of Allied Engineers and the intense battering the area has received by Japanese sea and air power.

SS Pike was sunk by a prowling ASW TF west of The Phillipines [:)]

I-156 (famous sub who sank an AK and hit a TK Se of Java) found another transport TF launching 2 fish at the large tanker Augustina. The fish hit but failed to detonate! Grrrrr [:@]

Johore received another battering from the air. IGD and 5th Division reached within 60 miles of Johore encountering the fleeing allies from Malacca. An attack will be launched today to sweep them out of my path.

Now the annoying news - 21ST DIVISION HAS WARPED FROM CLARK FIELD TO WAKE AND THEN ONTO MENADO. IT WILL TAKE 2 WEEKS TO GET THIS BACK TO CLARK DELAYING MY ATTACK BY 2 WEEKS. GGGGGRRRRRRR

Hi all,

Menado falls as does the defence of the road to Johore. It seems Werner has massed forces at Johore. I'm happy to fight them here rather than Singapore. Both IGD and 5th are marching on Johore. Following 120 miles behind are another division, regiment and tank regiment.

A few ASW attacks around the SRA. My ships west of The Phillipines found 2 subs and reportedly hit both of them. I-157 west of Java was set upon by 6 MSW's are viciously chased and attacked throughout the day.

Werner's remaining forts in The Phillipines are annoyingly hitting ships [:@] They hit an APD today which I had to scuttle. I've ordered Betties at San Marcelino to hit Manila's airfields. Interestingly my new airfield at Rabaul housing a Nell and Zero Daitai found a TF docking at PM. The Nells launched and despite 7 being damaged by flak managed to plant 2 bombs on the Canberra. Both bombs falling aft and penetrating the deck. A sign of things to come.....

38th Division at Menado and 56th Bde at Amboina will load and head for Kendari. Mini KB (currently heading back to Palau to rendevous with Shoho) will escort them whilst 2 BB division provide support. KB is also heading to Palau. I'm tempted to head them to Saigon (where a LOAD of troops have been based for operations on Sumatra and Java) to escort transports to Palembang and Bangka Island. We'll see.

Unfortunately the 21st Division has disappeared and is nowhere to be found. I'm asking Werner to hold this game until this is fixed. Since I can't afford to lose divisions to warping. I've attached a screenie below showing no 21st Division.

Hi all,

Well we tried to fix the disappearing division problem but no joy. The 21st Division is dead and will remain so unless Matrix find a fix.

I've decided to carry on anyhow since I don't want to restart. Not a lot happened on the 6th. Moulmein fell and I believe the defenders were marched into captivity since the 33rd division had cut the road to the north and was attacking from there whilst the 55th moved in from the south.

On the 7th progress was made at Clark Field. Despite the loss of 21st Division my men attacked with vigour and guile. The defenders had been subjected to a day of intense air bombardment by Betties and Nells from San Marcelino and Aparri. A major section of the defences were overrun. 700 casualties were caused on both sides but my men are eager to take the base. Another sustained attack will go in tomorrow.

A few plans are proceeding. 3 more infantry units are moving to Yenen to take the Chinese stronghold.

Both KB and mini-KB are at Palau. Mini-KB has been reinforced with Shoho. It will proceed with 2 BB division's to Kendari to support invasions by 38th Division, 56Th Brigade and 2nd Saebo SNLF. ETA for invasion 5-6 days.

KB will porceed through the Phillipines to Saigon. From there she will sail with various invasions forces bound for Sumatra (Palembang and Medan). Simulatenously. A brigade will be sailed from Kuching to take Bangkha island. Cover will be provided by a Zero Daitai and an Oscar Daitai.

Hi all,

Despite sync problems with the game we are continuing. A good day for the empire!

SS I-23 found an American supply convoy 540 miles northeast of Pearl Harbour. She crept towards the fleet and fired 6 fish towards a large tanker. Due to the presence of MSW and DD escorts the sub dived straight after firing. A minute later a large explosion was heard! The ever active Allied escorts searched for the attacker and DD Walke found a contact. DC's were dropped but no hits were recorded on my victorious sub which later surfaced to find the sea alight with burning fuel. The tanker was fully loaded. It is hoped she sink en route to port [:)] Further subs are being reloctaed in the area to intercept this convoy and 2 others spotted 540 nmiles south west of San Francisco.

Troops landed at Sorong and took the small oil producing settlement.

Japanese power reached Rangoon for the first time with an attack on the port by Sallies. Little damage was reported but it is a sign of things to come. The 55th and 33rd Divisions are 90 miles from Rangoon and shouldcut the railroad to safety within 2 days.

Allied troops at Clark were bombarded from the air again and my attack took more of the base. It must surely fall tomorrow.

The invasion fleets for Kendari are underway. The 38th Division has left Menado escorted by 2 BB divisions. 65th Bde and SNLF are leaving Amboina tomorrow. Mini KB has left Palau and will proceed to escort the invsions fleets.

A new operation has been formed for the capture of Sumatra. Details in following post.

Operation Summer Storm

Post by Speedysteve »

Operation Summer Storm is the codename for the capture of Sumatra. It will be launched within a week.

Within this week Singapore's airfield's will be nullified by IJA units at Khota Bharu leaving only a threat from Sumatra and Java in the south.

The details are as follows.

Main force will leave Saigon in 6 taskforces.

1. KB - Akagi, Shokaku and Soryu.

2. Kongo + cruisers and DD's. Covering support for invasion fleets.

3. Fuso and Yamashiro + cruisers and DD's. Covering Support.

4. Invasion fleet for Palembang. Also carried will be 2 SNLF that will march from Palembang to Teloekbetoeng

5. Support for Palembang. Base forces and Supply.

6. 4th mixed Rgt bound for Bankha and Medan.

A brigade will also be despatched from Kuching to support the invasion of Palembang.

Once taken. SNLF's will capture Bangkha and Sinkep Islands.

I've attached a screenie of my plan.

As mentioned ETA for it to start is 1 week from now.

Howdy

If your opponent agrees, maybe you could ask Matrix if they can editor your game and give you 4000ish Political Points. You could buy a division from the Home Guard Forces and you would have your normal number of divisions for the important part of the game. And if Japan gets invaded in 1946 you'll be one short.

Now I don't know if Matrix CAN change your PP but you could ask....
Is Sharkosaurus rex the biggest fish in the sea?
Why don't you come in for a swim?

Clark Field falls!

Post by Speedysteve »

Hi all,

Clark Field finally falls. The routed Allies fled to Manila. I didn't care which way they went. It will allow me to take him out piecemeal. I am marching onto Bataan now where 9 units are reported. 19 are now present in Manila.

Other than that just some routine mopping up of small islands and bases in New Britain (Lae is taken) and in the Celebes. I don't plan to advance beyond New Britain until i've cleared the SRA.

33rd and 55th Divisions have cut the railroad north from Rangoon. Time to die Englanders [;)]

My invasions fleets are moving nearer to Kendari. The force from Amboina will leave tomorrow. Following closely behind is a Base Force and 35000 tonnes of supply on AK's. Mini KB will have caught up with the invasion fleet from Menado tomorrow.

For those following this some good news on my damaged ships - Atago which was hit by a dutch sub near Kuching is making its way to Hong Kong for repairs. My crew did well in Kuching harbour by pumping out all the flood water. She is at 53 system damage and will take a long time to repair. Just think 1 Dutch torpedo almost sent her swimming with the fish!

My damaged KB elements are still making their slow way back to Japan. They have just passed Marcus Island and will probably take upto another week to arrive.

Hi all,

A fairly quiet turn with forces moving into position for the next major moves.

I-162 performed well today finding a lone Allied transport 180 miles south-east of Java. She surfaced launched fish (2 hitting), sailed alongside the burning hulk and lobbed a 4 inch shell into the Bridge to kill any remaining offices. She sailed away leaving the hulk sinking by the bow and to port. Within 5 minutes she was completely under. No evidence of cargo or men was found so its mission remains unknown.

My men launched probes and bombardments on the defenders of Johore Bharu and found he enemy in a weak and demoralised state. Plans have been issued to launch a shock attack with the 5th and IGD division supported by a tank regiment. They have been ordered to follow the defenders to the limits of their endurance if the defenders 'bug out'.

Kendari will be atacked tomorrow. Werner has spotted my 3 TF's 120 (2 x BB divisions escorting the 38th division) miles to the east. He doesn't appeared to have spotted mini-KB near Amboina which is good. If he interferes with surface ships either the BB's or mini-KB should deal with them.

A scouting sub also reported a transport TF heading from Australia to Timor. Interesting. A Nell daitai has been moved into Amboina with orders to attack any TF. We'll see.

I'll attach a screenshot of the Kendari region in my next post.

Kendari invaded!

Post by Speedysteve »

Hi all,

Werner surprised me this turn by sneaking in a CL/DD force to attack my 2 x AK's unloading supply at Singakawang. I didn't spot his force at all until they were lobbing shells at my ships. Nissyo Maru and W.10 sunk over the next 8 hours. Grrrr. Frustratingly my Nells based at Kuching (set to Naval attack) didn't attack his retreating ships during the day.

From around 1 am Kendari was pounded by the heavy guns of Mutsu, Nagato, Ise and Hyuga. The fire seemed widespread though despite the caliber of weapons fired.

troops went ashore soon after and enemy gunfire was limited. Some static defences did take a toll on my men and about 1000 casualties/disruptions were caused. No problem. An attack will go in tomorrow.

Success at Yenen. After weeks of bombarding the Chinese Insurgents and reinforcing my troops a determined attack was pressed home and the last major defences were overrun. The Chinese put up a good fight though. Hopefully the settlement will be captured tomorrow.

My Shock attack at Johore met with limited Success. I was expecting limited resistance but the defenders had built substantial fortifications. My men performed well though and overrun 2/3 of them. Another shock attack is ordered tomorrow with the added force of another division and a regiment.

Tugeugarao is frustrating. I have a division and a brigade thgere against 2 PA divs and a base force. My men are supplied but the attack this turn was typical. No headway has been made.

Action packed day!

Post by Speedysteve »

Hi all,

12th January was the busiest day in the war since 7th December.

Werner is being very aggressive (which I like at this stage of the war). After yesterdays interception of my transport convoy at Singakawang 3 Allied TF's arrived overnight. Two fo them shelled the airfield heavily destroying 10 Zeros and 10 Oscars. When daylight rose my cout planes from Kuching were sent out to find the assailants. 2 of the TF's were still within the vicinity of Singakawang and 1 wast steaming to the west 60 miles off the shore. Nells from Kuching and Saigon were readied and launched in waves to decimate the Allied intruders!

The first blow was dealt to the CVL Hermes harbouring inexplicably in Singakawang. A Nell punched a torpedo into the Starboard side of the ship.

The next major action occured when a Daitai from Kuching found the TF 60 miles offshore. The Destroyer Banckert was tagged by a torp but the CL Dragon was left heavily damaged affter 2 fish found their mark on the Port Bow. She was left lowering by the Bow.

In the afternoon another flight of Nells escorted by Zeros from Kuching appeared overhead and delivered another fish into Hermes. She appeared to be ok even after 2 torps!

It could have been better but i'm fairly happy with how my men performed. A lot of Nells were damaged by the formidable flak put up by the British which included the BB Revenge. 10 Nells were lost which included 7 precious pilots. Notwithstanding that All Nell Groups and my Sally group at Kuching have been put on Naval alert for tomorrow.

Other good news for the day -

A Nell tagged SS O20 120 miles north of Brunei and a Val put a 250KG bomb onto Tarpon 60 miles west pf Bataan.

Johore Bharu was stormed by my victorious troops and my Tank Regiment followed the Allies all the way to Singapore. I have 5 Infantry units marching toeards Singapore now. I'm happy I have split his defences in Malaya. He still has 2 Bde's at Mersing, 4 60 miles north of that which according to my Tank Regiment leaves just 4-6 left in Singapore. I should should crush this vermin soon.

Yenen in China also fell which is good. All industry is intact. Troops are moving to their next destination - Ichang.

Kendari was also captured by 38th division. Resources all intact [:)]

56th Bde and 2nd SNL are no longer needed here and are now proceeding towards Macassar further up the coast. The BBs and mini-KB will provide support. In the meantime mini-KB is heading toards Timor when my sub has been tracking the Allied TF. It is reportedly 120 miles SE off Lautern.
