Any chance of adjusting detailed battles so that armies arent right on top of each other???

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Any chance of adjusting detailed battles so that armies arent right on top of each other???

Post by Tanaka »

Whats the point of having detailed battles with no maneuvering???

Would make calvary a lot more useful!

My cannons and supply are getting slaughtered on the first turn!!!

Anyone else think the forces should start out further away from each other???

Hi, Using an "Order of March" when deploying would help. Light Cav and inf in front with supply, arty more towards rear (away from enemy)

I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!

This has been discussed in another thread--we will consider for a patch, but the farther away they start, the longer a battle will take. Maybe there is some happy medium, I don't know.

I still think that the range of possible starting ranges is simply too broad. Sometimes, battles begin a reasonable distance apart. Other times, I find my supply caissons in between enemy units and my artillary getting slammed before I have a chance to move it at all. We don't need to change the range per se and move things further apart, just ensure we always start at the top end of the current range.

No, no, I think he was just suggesting a feature for a patch.

maybe this could be a player option? some people like long drawn out strategic battles while others like quick affairs...

option button one: close-quick battles

option button two: longer distance-strategic battles

Yea, I surely opt for "instant-result-producing battles" (after deployment of, and dictating orders to, divisions)

It's on my list to move the units a small bit farther apart.

We did a lot of testing with map sizes and initial positioning -- small increases in either of these make for large increases in the time required to play out a detailed battle. Starting distance may be something I could make MODable if people want to play around with this value.

Hi Eric

Even if you placed the supply behind the lines, would help a lot. I find having the supply out on the wings of the army at the start is just an invitation for the enemy to swoop in and attack before I get a chance to move them.

As long as the much needed save feature accompanies any changes in the length of tactical battles, then I see no problem with that......

I did move the starting area for the caissons back an average of 7 hexes for the first patch. We'll see if this is far enough back... they still may show up on the wings, but they may be far enough back that they won't be attacked on the first turn of battle as they sometimes are now.

Yep. That alone will help a good bit. Thanks.
