Help needed - OUT of Memory

Post by brisd »

I posted this on the Out of Memory post below but no one has commented on it. I am running at only 572K in DOS and all my attempts to change it have failed. When I try modifying the autoexec.bat and config.sys files when I reboot the old files have resurfaced and I am still at 572! Any clues? It sucks not being able to view or modify my CV's airgroups.
Thanks in advance! Running Windows ME installed overtop Win95B.

Well im using W98, so it maybe different. Locate the PAC.PIF file and select properties. Try setting the conventionel memory to 600KB and enable HMA. If it doesn't work try fidling with the other settings. BTW im running without autoexec.bat and config.sys.

Windows ME doesn't use "config.sys" nor and "autoexec.bat" files. Thus you can't edit these files to increase DOS memory. You'll have to use a boot disk. I have a dual boot Win 2000/ME system. Pacific war runs in Win 2000, so I use it.

I found a tool making it possible starting Win ME in Real Mode. Installing this tool alone brought enough RAM for playing PacWar on my computer.
But be careful. It changes some system files.

See my posts in Tech Spt for Gamers by Gamers forum. I finally got PACWAR running (admittedly on my Win3.1/MS-DOS machine, haven't tinkered with my Win98 machine yet)using the boot disk generated by my old PACWAR CD. Good luck.

Thanks for the help. I have edited the pif file for PACWAR but when I set it to 600K it won't let me load program, saying other programs have loaded into memory. I may attempt the MEDOS patch, looks interesting. Guess I will have to figure out what is loading and somehow disable them. I would have preferred a patch file that is designed for ME.

Hey Guy's I got the aircraft upgrade to work even with the memory error message. If you manually enter the letter "C", for change. You may have to do it more than once, then you'll get the aircraft upgrade screen.

My jeep carrier enter as reinforcements with out air groups, any ideas?

I am running win95 and can't free up my conventional memory. Mapmem no long works so I can't see what's being loaded. I've done a F8 at windows boot-up and manually disabled everything and I lost more memory, DOH!

ANY IDEAS?
