Level bombers mining!

Post by castor troy »

Can someone please tell me how I can figure out how many mines my level bombers can carry? And what type of mine? Allied, Japanese?

Thanks

The Japs don't get to mine Allied harbours. And while I don't know how many mines the bombers can carry, I doubt it can be more than a nuisance level field.

Can you lay them at night?

...and can any bomber lay mines? Medium bombers?

Maybe I found a use for my Mitchells. [:D]

However, it's not just US bombers that get to lay them, as I'd previously thought. I've just had British Liberator VI's drop mines in Rangoon harbour.

It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

I know you can fly off Land based aircraft - but i thought that was only on transfers. Can you actually simulate something like a Doolittle raid with this?

I was more or less being tongue in cheek, Rtrapasso [:)]. Would make for an interesting patch if they did allow it though hehe.

Man I use them at low level and they just rip up jap merchant ships. Not bad at AF attacks if used with heavies.

Are you sure Jap planes can't sew mines? The Jap Type 3 aerial mine is in the data base. Never tried it though.

The Japanese should be able to lay mines, I beleave from what I recall, this is alowed in the game, in a maner similar to the way the Allies do it.

The Japanese are definetly able to lay mines in the game (city attack). I just didn´t know that each bomber lays just one mine.

IIRC I can lay mines as Japanese with Sally, Betty, Nell, Helen. Don´t know about the Lily or the later models. Japs use 2 E bombers to lay mines.

I believe the rule is that you need level bombers. That would be B-25's, Sallies, Nells, B-29's, whatever.

I don't think tactical bombers can lay mines in the game.

I'm also not sure what size airfield and/or port is needed to fly the missions. I think I remember reading in a post that you need a size 9 port to lay mines with air groups. If that's the case, then you're really limited on air mining.

So Speedy's statement is not correct? B-25s CAN lay mines? When is a 2-engine level bomber considered "tactical"? Hudsons? Blenheims? B-26s? etc.
