Help needed

Hello, whenever I start up Pacific War, I get through the opening 'credit' screens and then am kicked to desktop with this illegal operation:

The program tried to execute an invalid instruction.

Fault location: 00C0:FF8E

Interrupts in service: None

Anyone have any ideas how I might fix this ?

This has been the indication of memory problems for everyone that has had them. Because of the number of operating systems in use, you would be best off going through the old posts and finding them, as each operating system has a best solution. If Win95/98, your best solution is a clean config.sys file that is only includes
device=himem.sys and
dos=high,umb
The other posts have details for both this, Windows ME, various NT versions and Windows 2000.

Hi Maelstrom Rick's suggestion about changing the config.sys worked for me using Win98. I was getting the same message you were.

Thankyou for the quick response's. I have to admit I'm not sure how to edit the config.sys and I definately don't want to create any problems for any other programs I have. Any pointers ? I'm using Win 98 and Iv'e never had a memory problem before running much more demanding games, kinda strange.

As an old DOS user, my method is manual, but other posts show how to do it through Windows easily.

Anyway, click on Start, choose Programs, click on MS-DOS Prompt. Type "cd\" and press "enter". At the c:\ prompt, type "edit config.sys" and "enter".

Try putting the above two lines in. If you have other lines already in there, type rem and a space before each of those lines - this prevents them from running and if you need them back due to other problems, take out the rem. Save the changes, restart the computer and you should be ready to play.
