PT's, APA's and LST Pool's!

Post by CliffC »

When getting APA's from the pool you can manually select up to 20 ships ONLY! While the comuter "Get Transport" function will give you more, but this dosen't always work. The pools says I got 45 LST's and 30 Liners but I can't get at them! A "Get Transport" won't pull them out of the pool! It appears that a get transport will only pull ships out of ports on the map! I also ave 45 PT's that I can't get at as well!

Any ideas?

Each type of ship that uses the ship pool has an upper limit per ship unit. For example:

PT boat = 10
Sub-chasers = 8
MCS = 50
Liners "AP" = 20
etc...

So even with ships in the pool, once you max out a given ship unit, you'll need to find other undersized ship units to draw more ships from the pool.

Hope this helps,

CliffC,
to follow on from Richs' letter, there are only a certain number of groups for each kind of ship. For example, there are 6 USN LST groups - once those 6 groups are on the map, you can only add LSTs to those groups, you can't make new groups.
As an aside, it does seem to make a difference *which* HQ you use with the 'Get Transport' command. In my last game I had to use CENPAC to get a swarm of offmap APA(L)s, LSTs, APAs and APDs onto the map then send them back to the US to pick up units - WEST COAST wouldn't get any at all Image

Rich:
The MTB file, (in Bear's editor it is ship file 134, I think) and the Torpedo Boat file (no. 157) are switched. The added torpedo boats show up in file 157, but the MTB listing is file 134. If you go into the ship characteristic file there will be a number listed under pool, which can not be accessed from the MTB file while "in port". I switched the ship's characteristics for both files, and then switched the deployment files using Bear's editor and it works just fine.

Also, in APA(L), there are none of them at the start of the game showing as anything other than reinforcements late in the game. Should there be one or two of the larger APA's available earlier, as in before 1943.

One trick which worked for divisional transport using small APAs in Old PacWar was to activate a division, (one only) and then hit "Get Transport". Usually 38 or so (if you have one available in port somewhere) small APAs would show up. The caveat is that at least one such ship must be inport somewhere and not assigned to a TF. Made it possible to get a division in one slot in the TF display rather than scattered over two or three slots, which late in the war is necessary. (I usually have at least one CLAA, a flock of DD's, and some DE's if avail with transports, and throw in a couple of merchies for first round supply if possible - so max lift for the slot in the TF display can get to be a hassle - especially invading the PI or Formosa.)

Thanks for the info Rev. Rick. I'll check into both those items with Jeremy and see if we can straighten out the database.

Your last topic brings up a good point. If you want to get AP's with 'Get Transport', you must have at least one LCU activated at the selected port. Otherwise, you will only get MCS's. Some Newbies may not realize this.

Rich
