2000 AP bomb, 4000 GP bomb

Post by castor troy »

Looking through the database editor I found in slot 210: 2000 lb AP bomb and in slot 206: 4000 lb GP bomb!!! [X(][X(][X(]

Are these monsters used? Have I overlooked a patch? I´m using the past beta 1.6 patch. 1.64?? or whatever.

2000 pound AP bomb is currently is use by error - claimed to be fixed in current Beta patch.

Haven't seen/heard any sign of the 2 ton monster (yet).

I don't remember if Skyraiders were operational in '46, but didn't they carry a 4k GP?

Oops, just looked at site that said they were supposed to carry 2 x 2k, not a single 4k. Supposedly, they went operational 12/46.

I assume the 4000lber is the UK 'Cookie'

Carried by Lancasters and the like to drop on Germany. They are not in the game sadly despite serving in theatre late on.

The Mosquito bomber (not fighter bomber) carries one I think as it's sole weapon. Thats what it did in the European theatre and I believe it's in the database with that load out.

Dont have my Cambell's naval weapons to reference for the specific plane but i do recall the entry for the 4k GP stated that only a postwar carrier bomber type could lug this nugget. Skyraider sounds about right.

So like it´s now I don´t need to be afraid of this bomb, do I? But why it´s in the database then?

Correct. The Mosquito B.XXVI carries a single 4000lb GP bomb.

I don't think a Skyraider could carry a 4000 lb bomb. One 2000 lb on each of two stub plyons and 12 500 lb on the wing plyons. I am not sure what they could put on the centerline, never saw them without a drop tank. Worked on them at NKP Thailand. [:D]

Looks like you DO need to be worried - at least when the Mosquito B.XXVI shows up...

That little beauty is the US T-12 deep penetration (or "earthquake") bomb, designed in 1944 and meant to be carried by the B-36 Peacemaker bombers (just two per heavily modified aircraft). A monster bomb carried by a monster aircraft.

One of the bombs is on display outside the entrance to the US Army Ordnance museum at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds.

Wow thats a big bomb! But only the B-36 could carry it.

T12
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The T-12 demolition bomb was designed to create an "earthquake effect." It achieved this by having an extremely thick nose section, which was supposed to penetrate deeply into the earth (earth penetrating weapons are often referred to as EPW). The T-12 carried a charge of 44,000 lb (20,000 kg), which was twice the size of the next-smaller bomb, the M-110.

Because of its enormous explosive charge, and the intention to create seismic shock, the bomb was referred to as the Earthquake Bomb. It, like many weapons of its ilk, were really more terror weapons than practical. In the case of the T-12, for example, only one plane, the B-36 Peacemaker could actually carry the weapon.

And on a side note - the B-52 is BIG, right? Well, the B-36 had a wingspan of 230 feet, 50% LONGER than the B-52! It had TEN engines!
