Memory Bug- How to make boot disk

I really wish to play this game but when I try to change the orders to the air groups on the carriers I get a "out of memory" message.

In the old days there was a boot disk solution that would fix this problem. Is the same method available now?

I really think Matrix should address this problem so many of us can fully appreciate this game.

Hi, I have been able to fix this problem by removing emm386 from loading when PC reboots. You do not need emm386 for this game that I can tell. Anyway I had the problem of out of memory error when looking at cv airgroups and troops on ships I fixed it by doing the following:

WIN98 only (maybe 95??)

quick way is to go start:find and put config.sys in the find window.
when you find it (must be c:\config.sys) open it up with notepad. If it looks like this below then you can see where I REM'ed the DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE and reboot. Worked for me hope it helps.

Thank you but I have one question: What if it doesn't work and will it forever change my system therefore potentially not allow me to run other programs?

Removing EMM386, will mean you'll have no upper memory to load drivers and stuff into high memory. This means you'll have less conventional memory to play DOS games in a Windows DOS box, so in that case it may prevent you from playing other games that need a lot of conventional memory.

Optimizing a Windows system to get the most free ram for DOS programs is an arcane science. Its not easy to explain to someone not already familar with DOS. Worst of all, what you should or shouldn't do depends a lot on your computer's hardware. There are several other threads here in PACWAR, and WIR, and in the General Discussion forum that talk about optimzation. Reading those may help some.
