Mig 15 seems to modern for this one. I still see some of the german ancestry from before the russian jets took their more distinctive shapes. It looks somewhat similar to the mig-9. I'm going to guess it is some reasonably obscure prototype from that general timeframe.

The MIG 3 had alot of variants mostly all piston engines did the Soviets ever do a jet variant?

I know this thing is made by YAK. Isn't this a YAK-9b one of the first Soviet jet fighters. If I remember correctly Wings Channel did a show on this aircraft and the shenigans that USAF Intel went through to "borrow" one of these aircraft to test it and then get it back before the Soviets even knew it was gone.

That Was a hard one.

I couldn't find it on the web, I wasn't real sure who made it.

I remembered I had two boxes of an Atlas War Planes picture collection.

It was the only YAK picture of that era in the set, go figure.

Correct! The photo is from Monino, the Russian Air Force Museum.

Check this out, as well: it's a Yak 17, also at Monino. See the family resemblance?
